Default Do akebonos stick farther out then brembos?

Right now I have an 18x9RPF spaced +18 in the fronts and there is literally 1mm of clearance between the outside of the caliper and in the inside of the rim at the closed point towards the hub. Does anyone know if the akenonos sit out any farther than the brembos? Im about to buy the AK bbk kit and sell my brembos.

Yes about 1mm... When I bought my VSXX's Mark told me that a 3mm spacer would be enough to clear Brembo's and I have Akebono's, if you don't put the lugs on evenly my VSXX's would scrape the Akebono's.

Well that just killed my dreams. Im running a 20mm spacer on my fronts right now and they sit perfect. I don't wanna run 25s and have them stick out.

Mine are the CZP kit which have 14" rotors in the front and 13"s in the rear... the pic is pretty deceptive the Akebono's are longer but the don't stick out as much.

Size doesn't means that they are better.

Their biggest flaw is the size actually... you can't fit them behind A LOT of wheels without a spacer and they don't have stellar brake pad choices.

Do mean the face of the caliper? Right now my rims run a +18 offset and the lowest part of the caliper is about a mm away from the run...theres a little more room towards the top. If they dont stick out as much then they will def. fit. If not ill step up to a 25mm spacer(20 is in there now) and have it machined down as low as I need to till they are close without touching. I dont want my rims sticking out of the fenders and at +18 with a 255 up front they look perfect.

Ok I've had several wheel set ups with my Akebono's:

VSXX's 19x9.5/10.5 +15 R Disks with a 3mm spacer in the front and you can't fit anything thicker than a sheet a paper between the face of the caliper.

BBS LM's 18x9/10 +20 No spacer needed but I needed to shave the outside of the Akebono's to keep it from touching the LM barrels.

BBS RGR's 19x8.5/9.5 +22f and +15r, no spacer needed and it cleared perfectly.

Enkei RPF1's 18x9.5/10.5 +15 there was plenty of space all the way around.

I wish I had a better pic of the Enkei's but this will do for the example.

Lastly a set of TE37's in 19x9.5/10.5 +12 no mods and clears beyond perfectly.

I just noticed you have Brembo's... to be perfectly honest I wouldn't sell your Brembo's for Akebono's unless its for looks rather than performance. I'm going back to Brembo's with this set up:

Candy Purple F&R Calipers
Ferodo DS2500 pads F&R
DBA 5000SX 2-piece Fronts Cross drilled/slotted
DBA 4000SX 1-piece Rears Cross drilled/slotted
Stoptech SS lines F&R
ATS Super Blue

I honestly think I'll be happier with that set up than the Akebono's. The Akebono's look awsome but I have to tighten the brackets from time to time, when I turn the wheel to the extreme left or right they'll squeak if I don't. If I were in your shoe's I'd just wait until I had enough money saved for a Stoptech set up or Hell wait for a deal like Kuhan had that he was selling Endless6/4 pots for >4k.

I agree with Joel. Brembo > Akebono for performance.
Joel, I was surprised to see that you have Akebono bbk installed instead of your painted Brembo bbk. Did you have both at the time and decided to go with Akebono?

No I have a Touring 6-speed so it came with non-Brembo's, at the time I couldn't find any and I didn't want to buy a race brake set up ie... Willwood, Stoptech, Mu. So I bought the CZP set up, I love it but since I have 4 sets of wheels... its hell getting them on and I've had to not buy a set of wheels b/c they won't clear the Akebono's but they'd clear the Brembo's. The candy paint has already started to chip b/c I split them for painting and some of the brake fluid got on the paint. Sooooo I'm just going to wait until I get back and have them rebuilt and powder coated the same color. I didn't install them b/c Adam at Z1 had a hard time getting the rear rotors. I'm in Afghanistan at the moment so all my plans are on hold until I return.

If you want brembos we can trade? haha the reason im switching is mainly for looks and the fact that it wont cost me much. I need to rotors and pads and I was planning on having these powder coated bright red. I absolutely love the look of bright red calipers on any color car. And after the price of new rotors pads and the powder coating I can have bigger better looking brakes..so even if the performance is the same it wont matter..these will look better. I guess you can call it my one ricer mod. lol(im allowed one)

I have a set of Brembo's now but thanks anyway... if you get the CZP kit I believe they have the 40th anniversary Akebono's which are in red but I think its extra.
