Default Rear end fishtales when hitting bumps

I'd just like to get any advice you might have. Not looking for any smartass answers. So here's the issue:

My car is on tein flex coilovers and was running -3 camber in the back. Then I hit a curb on the driver side. I noticed the rear end seemed to slide towards the passenger side when I hit bumps so I jacked it up and found the driver hub bearing was bad. I replaced it. The fish tale feeling was still present. Two weeks later the hub bearing was bad again. Replaces it with an oem this time. A week later that one goes bad. I suspected the drive arm was bent but wasn't sure so I replaced the drive arm, camber arm, toe arm, upper and lower control arm, knuckle, and hub bearing assembly on the driver side last weekend. Finished it up last night and drove to work this morning and the fishtale feeling is still there.

I'm going to bring it in for alignment this weekend but just curious if anyone else had issues like this or if anyone can think of something else I should check. Passenger side bushings all look good, maybe it's the diff???

FISH TAIL FEELING SOLVED: ALIGNMENTS ARE PRETTY IMPORTANT...... JUST BURNED ANOTHER HUB BEARING THOUGH....

i had the same feeling and my culprit was blown d spec shocks. i know you said you were on coils but dont rule it out. i thought i needed a alignment also, but found out my two rears were blown, replaced now she handles like a dream. i used to hate driving my z b/c it was skipping over bumps in the rear. hope that helps. dont want you to keep blowing doe, if you could pin point something yourself

After replacing all thise parts, it will need an alignment. Till an alignment is done, i would say its an alignment problem.

Yea I know. I pulled the Struts from the rear and sent them back to tien for rebuild. I put oem struts in but kept the tien springs. I did swap the springs from one side to the other but that didn't do ish. Should have the struts back in about two or three weeks.

It would be nice if an alignment and rebuilt struts fix it....

Well the rear struts(shocks) will have no affect on the alignment. I would just get it aligned now.

That's why in my OP I said I'm getting it aligned this weekend lol. It's the soonest I have time to do it. Lucky I have another car to drive so it'll stay in the garage until then.

When you installed your coilovers, you probably lowered your car. This has affect on the rear toe setting. The alignment should fix the problem. However, depending on how much you lowered your car, you may need to install aftermarket toe bolts.

yea i have aftermarket camber and toe arms. too busy to get the alignment yesterday but i should have it by next weekend. im not driving it because i dont want to ruin another hub bearing assy.

I hope you're right and the alignment fixes it. I can't afford to keep replacing hub bearing every 2 weeks....

sorry but... you have aftermarket camber and toe arms and you're going around with -3 camber in the rear? that is a good way to F* up your wheel bearings. go back to a more reasonable -1.5, -1.8 rear camber and your wheel bearings will have some more chance to survive.

I didn't have aftermarket camber/toe arms until i started burning bearings.... lol -3 was as straight as I could get them after I dropped it on the OEM camber/toe arms.

i went to 3 alignment shops today and all of them told me my car is too low for their lift. if i raise it an alignment with be worthless. FML

I'm thinking i'll pull off the front bumper this weekend and see if anyone can do it then.... I have a feeling when I hit that curb it threw the toe off on that wheel and could be the reason for the bearings going bad, but would that really cause the booty shake when I hit bumbs? I just feel like there is a bad bushing back there somewhere and I just havn't found it yet.... Well I guess we will find out after this alignment. Man this ish is getting expensive...

its only getting expensive because you're just throwing parts at the car without much direction

your best course of action is to get a factory service manual and start going over everything with a fine tooth combo, or find a shop in the area familiar with the car who can do it for/with you. Parts should be purchased as the result of diagnosis, not prior to. I can't understand how you managed to eat 3 wheel bearings in what seems like days. My guess is your issue is related to that.

blown diff bushing(s), blow subframe bushings, blown rear dampers, blown rear shock bushings, poor alignment settings, poo-tires, even incorrect tire pressures can all net you a sloppy feeling rear end

I call it shotgun maintenance. It generally worked for me in the past but yea if the alignment doesn't work then it's off to the dealership.

Also all the parts I swapped will be for sale soon so I should make some money back on it in the end.

And if they can't figure out the issue, the whole damn car will be for sale....

Unless you have the arms that replace the spring perch, the toe arms you speak of are traction rods. They are not for changing your toe setting.

The problem is probably misaligned rear toe. For me, it created a lack of control at highway speed. The car would randomly dart left or right and I would constantly have to fight it.

never underestimate the power of a good alignment. Everything is back to perfect now. When I hit a bump, it is only felt on the side that hits the bump rather than giving a fish-tale feeling in the rear.

Anyone with this problem, it is probably because you lowered your car. First buy aftermarket camber, toe/traction (call them what you want) arms, then go get an alignment ASAP. I had an alinment after I lowered mine and the best we could get was -3 in the back with OEM suspension. Like I said in my OP, I hit a curb pretty hard and that probably knocked the alignment off on that rear wheel. I threw parts at it trying to fix it but nothing seemed to work until yesterday, when I had them aligned and camber set to -1.5

It's only been two days of driving so im not positive I won't burn another hub bearing but I'm pretty sure I won't.

BUSHINGS....BUSHINGS.....BUSHINGS.......

I guaran****ingtee that you have blown bushings in the rear. You need to take to shop or just jack up your car and examine all of your bushings in the rear.

Did I mention that it's probably BUSHINGS......

I still have a lil rear shakin in the rain, but i partially fixed my problem untill i get a alignment. REAR TIRES!!!!!!!!!!. I jackd up the the rear and looked around for worn or broken bushings, the DIFF bushing was kinda of torn but still good. So i checked the balance and to see what side was shaking while in drive. started the car while the rear jackd up. The problem was my tires!!!!, One tire was shanking, It looked like the tire was doing waves.lol. Stopped the car, looked at the car at angle, saw the waves on the tire, so im pretty sure that doenst help when driving with camber.lol. bought those tires used. If yall want pics of the tires, let me know. Oh yeah, Dnt BUY USED TIRES.

Still sounds like blown bushings to me. I had the exact same problem and the problem was blown bushings. Either way....G/L
