Default True Coilovers: I have questions.

First off I did search, spent alot of time reading.

Now I am trying to decide what I'm going to do with my suspension. My aim is a trackworthy suspension setup that will spend most of it's life on the street. I'm NOT LOOKING TO SLAM MY CAR, just looking to lower 1"-1.5". My car is about function. Budget is not much of a concern but I probably wont spend more than $2000 on coilovers, but I said something similar before I bought my StopTech four wheel BBK.

After reading suspension 101 I decided on running true coilovers in the rear. I want a track focused coilover that is a true coilover type in the rear.

I'm considering the Fortune coilovers, but there are lots of unanswered questions about them. They also offer custom valving and swift springs but they are not adjustable for rebound. The vendor did post a shock dyno but i don't know what I'm looking at, can someone enlighten me?

Next is KW Coilovers, I searched everywhere but I could only find KW's in the OEM style, yet this picture shows one. Where do i find a set of these? If this were an option on the V3 coilovers, this would be my choice.

I'm also open to suggestions, but I will be running a true coilover in the rear. What are some other quality track coilovers in the true coilover style? Please help me and thanks in advance everyone. Sorry for the picture theft, hope its okay with the owners of the pics.

KW clubsports should be what you want to look for.

This is the only KW V3 in True Coilovers out there. If you want to stay to True and KW then go for the clubsport as terrasmak said.

Okay great, thank you. Do the clubsports come in both styles (true and OEM)? Because I could swear I've seen them in the OEM style.

Frankly, what's the advantage of "true" coilovers vs. separate rears? The little I've read seems to indicate that there's no performance advantage with the "true" coilovers.

I PMed one of our vendors here about the KW clubsport and they are NOT true coilovers in the rear.

Not really contradictory when you think about it, I didn't say i wanted a track coilover that rides great on the street. Just that my track suspension would spend alot of time on the streets.

Okay Stance coilovers? I thought those were only for the "HellaFlush yo Slammed" kids. Are they adjustable for rebound independently from compression? I will look into the JIC coilovers.

While I appreciate you throwing three coilovers out there, what I really need is advice on what true style rear coilover will offer me the best track setup.

My buddy has a set of JIC's that are true coilovers. I'm pretty sure they're an older model.

You're sort of limiting yourself with a budget of 2k and a true coilover.

Club Sports are OEM. I would swap out the rear springs for something stiffer anyway. I almost pulled the trigger on a set, but decided to rebuild my DA Koni's again. I can' figure out why you would eliminate OEM style coil-overs, though.

For 2,000....you can almost get a set of AST 4100's with any spring rate you want. They would out perform any of the OTS options I have seen listed here.

The main difference I've seen in the suspension 101 thread is you gain the ability to run a toe arm in the rear which locks your rear toe in place. And apparently rear toe is a real b1tch to lock in so

My budget of around 2K is pretty flexible. I'm thinking I might go with the Zeal Function X coilovers. Yeah the reason I want to run true coils is to lock in toe settings. I found a couple threads with some half reviews of the Zeals, seems like what I'm looking for. Quite a bit more money than I wanted to spend but it'll be worth it in the end. Any opinions on these?

http://www.splparts.com/SPL_RML_Z33.html No need for true coilover to lock out the toe setting. I would have got them but they were backordered when i was building my suspension.

Love mine, but a little out of his price range. I believe AST is a little cheaper.

Yeah I know about this setup and it seems pretty good. I'll look into it more, thanks.

Looks like a good option, wish they were a bit cheaper but I guess you get what you pay for.

Edit: ok I have to get off SPL's website before I drop like $3k

Terra - you see any problem running SPC rear camber arms with SPL rear mid link?

I hadn't seen the shock dyno on those before, and honestly they look better than I would have thought. Not to say they will match a set of AST's, Motons, or KW Clubs stroke for stroke but respectable for the price range.
By looking at this plot alone, there's a lot to take from it but I'll focus on hysteresis.

-The deviation of the two sets of lines show the hysteresis. Consider this as how good the shock is in it movements throughout its stroke cycles. You want these lines to be really tight, but no shock is perfect and even good ones show a little gap.

I believe the hysteresis looks a little high and also the uneven rebound movements (bottom side of plot) shows a little bit of a fault in the design just before the crucial 2 ips speed (inch per sec).

No problems, but for $100 more you can get the SPL arms. They are so much better.

Im running SPL everything in the rear , Camber, toe , traction , monoball kit and endlinks. Very nice track setup, along with the coilover, springs, spring bearing plates that SPL sells.
