there are issues w/ the brackets developed for the akebonos that
no one seems to want to discuss.
also, they weigh alot comparatively and are not shown to deliver
any better performance over oem brembo - which i've shown can
be had for sub $1k.
there are also very few pad/rotor combos for them.
should i continue? not bashing, just saying that oem brembo is the way
to go.

I'm not saying they suck but they're not as good as the Brembo's. Your going to pay 2 x's for a set up equal to the Brembo's. Just out of curiosity do you have the Akebono's? One thing to keep in mind is the astronomical size of the Akebono's which are about the size of most 6 piston set ups and weigh more. Why get a set up that limits you right away? Custom made and obtainable should never be used in the same sentence, do you in fact know that these vendors have these in stock? What if they're back ordered and your number 15?

Akebonos are a pain in the ***, biggest gripe is that they're just too big. Big in terms of heavy as well as big in terms of limiting your wheel choices.
Yes I have them on my car, and yes I like them a hell of a lot more than 2005 OEM non-brembo, and yes they were a good price.
I will not be taking them off my car though, they perform great, and price was right IMO.
To say that akebonos are garbage is either ignorance or elitism. Best choice? Maybe not, but they're not garbage.

I agree on the fact that they limit wheel selection. I have them on Volk GTS 19" wheels and I only have about a 1/4" clearance from the spoke. A lot of wheels even in 19s will not clear. However I do not actaully need BBK for performance. My car is driven about 20miles a week on weekends for pleasure. In my case it is for looks and I like them better than the OEM brembos because they are bigger and fill my wheels more. I clearly had the choice and all the info that you guys talk about but I still went with them. No regrets

I have wilwood and its a pretty stout kit. Id recommend it to others. One nice benefit is that the rotor is 1.25 inches thick so theres a lot of meat to it. In addition, the parts are cheap and easily available. Also, wilwood tech support can help you same day and they speak english. The cost for the kit is also cheaper than comparable competitors.
My only comment is noisy pads but that is expected from a race pad.

I just wanted to have a general idea about how easy (or difficult) to find some replacement BBK parts. I know Stoptech and Akebono are almost everywhere. But how about other brands such as Rotora, Project Mu, Wilwood, etc?
The reason is I found a pair of sexy Wilwood 6pot BBK on a 350Z that's being for sale and I kind of want to offer the owner something for it. Before doing so I checked on the net where to find replacement parts for it - ie: pads, rotor rings.
Are these things only available from the manufacturers themselves?
It looks like the options for trying out different pad materials from other brands becomes limited...
