Default BBK Guys: How hard is it to find ur replacement parts?

I just wanted to have a general idea about how easy (or difficult) to find some replacement BBK parts. I know Stoptech and Akebono are almost everywhere. But how about other brands such as Rotora, Project Mu, Wilwood, etc?

The reason is I found a pair of sexy Wilwood 6pot BBK on a 350Z that's being for sale and I kind of want to offer the owner something for it. Before doing so I checked on the net where to find replacement parts for it - ie: pads, rotor rings.

Are these things only available from the manufacturers themselves?

It looks like the options for trying out different pad materials from other brands becomes limited...

Wilwood pards are available thru Todd at TCE or wilwood themselves. Wilwood is an old company that is not going anywhere. I usually get pads from Todd within 3 days, my last set of rings took like 4 days to come in. They are not chiniese crap brakes tike many others available for our car.

When you checked for availability of replacement parts what did you find?

Wilwood will be your best bet for an overall solid kit and for replacement parts as they are a US based company(Cheap too). Stay away from Project Mu as getting parts for them aren't easy or cheap. I have a set of Akebono's and to be quite honest, the OEM Brembo's are an overall better kit in terms of everything from pad choices to rotor choices. Stoptech's are a great system for money but are a little more expensive than the Wilwoods and I don't know what your budget is. Good luck.

I run front and rear Wilwoods. Great brakes, easy to find parts, and are built with true R&D.

StopTech and Wilwood are probably your best two choices.

rotora and Project mu are probably the worst two choices.

Thanks for the input.
I've been debating between a brand new set of Akebono's vs used Brembo's.
Definitely keep that in mind.

My Brembo's will be up for sale when I get home, PM me if you'd like details on my kit.

If the question is just about parts availability then the Akebono parts should not be hard to find either because they are OEM for some 370Z and G37 models

Which bracket?. The allum ones for the fronts?. HMM. Good point. That is
only available from a few guys and might not be there 10 years from now.
On the side note I think the only way they get dammaged would be in a serious accident, in which case you are due for new brakes anyway

I thought those, Akebonno's, were readily available and can be sold separately by a few vendors on here?

Yes they are. Actually some other cars use them as well. In fact some models of the M3 do not even require adapters for both front and back. They bolt on directly. They are jumping on them as well. My in-law just put them on his. (Without the Nissan logo). Lol

Would you want to pay 375+ for a bracket? Some of the vendors won't sell them individually so you'd have to buy a set and they're L/R specific. Akebono's are nice and all but being that I have a set... they're not worth it. Not to say I'm the authority on brakes but I also have a set of Brembo's and now a set of Endless so I may have a little more to say than most on the topic.

OEM pads are easily available for the Akebono's but if you plan to track the set up, your going to pay a crap load for rotors and such to have a marginally(at best) better set up than OEM Brembo's.

I agree the price for the brackets are ridiculous. In my decision to get them I looked at the overall price of the setup since I was not buying only the brackets. And I hope I would not have the need for new brackets anytime soon

akebono's are garbage.

might as well stick with oem brembo's.

if not them, then spend more money and go stoptech st-60/40.

if you want something more expensive, endless.

if you want something even more ridiculous pm me and i'll help
you price r35 brembo's. parts/pads/etc. are VERY available.
at a price of course.

I'm not arguing which bbk is better... i'm just clarifying... the replacements are available and easily obtainable...

i wouldn't say akebonno's suck though, pad and 2pc rotor selection just needs to catch up

my list basically included setups with readily avail aftermarket and oem parts.

in my experience akebonos suck for the value.

they're also creeping towards the weight of my r35 brembos.

this community always delivers.

Thanks for all the valuable inputs guys!
Flo-Rida, awesome info bro.

Actually I've done a lot more reading on threads here, about the need for brake upgrades and found out that my car is not even all that to need a BBK When I can afford to run Rcomps + extra wheels dedicated for trackdays then I might start considering this project again.

Like lgear080 mentioned: "might as well stick with oem brembo's"

I found out it's just a matter of finding a good setup combo, especially with pad material.

Right now I got SS lines, RBF600, Stoptech slotted on the OEM Brembo calipers + Endless Super Street pads. The rotors aren't track worthy anymore due to very tiny spider cracks in some areas.

I've decided that on my next setup, I should just save the money instead and get the 2pc Stoptech Aero's with better pad compound. THis way I can also shave off some unsprung weight. My Rota's and 275's up front mean I could really use a set of lighter rotors... agree?
