Default Vibration/Grinding Sound After 5/16 Spacer Install

I installed a 5/16 spacer and reinstalled strut brace. Strut brace clears the plenum. Car started making this horrible vibrating/grinding noise at low speed, stops at 40ish. Took strut brace off noise went away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How much clearance did you have after installing the spacer?

if you barely clear the strut bar after the install, when driving, the motor will move back and forth and that's what's causing the vibration and noise. you have to give it about 4 or 5 mm of clearance for enough room.

This is most likely your issue, if you open the hood and see scratches on your hood underside or strut bar you have your issue.

Thanks for the tips. I will give it a little more clearance and see if that does the trick.

Mark I told you that you needed to add the 5/16th spacers before you put the strut bar back on. Most likely you have scratched up your polished plenum by not doing what I said. Call Tony at Motordyne and get the 5/16th spacers and Bolts to do it right.

Like most of the guys have already said, it sounds like you already diagnosed your problem, strut bar plenum clearance, I guess if you really wanted to you could put washers under the strut to raise it just enough. Backyard special????

You have to balance the space above and below the strut bar. Make too much clearance between plenum and strutbar and you're rubbing the hood. Too little space and the plenum hit the strutbar. When I had mine, I wound up sticking some hard foam pads at the points where the plenum hit the strutbar and the strutbar hit the hood.

Combination of spacers and strutbar tension will make it all good.

i had the same problem and tightened the brace too much after the install. Add the spacers and you will be fine.
