Need a point in the right direction
soooo there I was. I have had my 03 350z for about 5k now, and I am pretty kind to it. Never run it hard or race it around corners, and being an ex VW/BMW guy with ultra low cars, I am always on the look out for pot holes. Anyways, came out one rainy day and it appeared gas was leaking from my car. so I put it up in the garage, no gas leak, turns out the front drivers side strut blew out and was leaking from there. I believe, it was just their time with 75k on the stock set up.
Long story short, I need a new suspension. I have been looking in the classifieds for used coil overs, but also though out the internet for new ones, just kinda shopping at the moment. What are some good suggestions? The car is a daily, and will not see the track, though I do like the occasional spirited run through some twists. Just looking for some suggestions from the guys in the know, that could point me in the right direction and maybe some pointers on what companies to avoid. I really am not looking to spend more than 1000. Thanks people

get some tein basics and call it a day, they are within your budget. the quality is great, only issue is you cant "dump" the car. but since its your dd i doubt that will be an issue.

Dont get teins all your paying for is the name. You can get Stance Gr+ for under $1000 there amazing coils and do the job. Theres a bunch for sale right now. There also rebuildable in the US which is a huge plus. You can either get the True Type or the OEM Style. I personally recommend the OEM style as it puts less stress on the Wheel well location.
Also if youd like to "dump" the car you can with the stance they go low, really low.

thank you everyone. I have been eyeballing the Stance GR coil overs, I did not know they were rebuildable. That sounds like a plus. Yes it is my DD, but next summer I do plan on getting a new set of wheels, and would like a coil over to give me a little bit of adjustability on the ride height. I have been looking at the Megan Racing coils as well. How would these (of the same price range) compare to the Stance GR's?
I was reading somewhere that I have to be careful when lowering the car due to the VDC? How low can I go before I create a problem? like I mentioned earlier, I have had older BMW's (e36 being the newest) and VW's (mkII & III) and never anything this advanced as far as electronics and design go, so sorry for the new guy questions. Thanks once again!

VDC does not care if the car is lowered. Swaybar and spring rates make an insignificant change as far as VDC is concerned. The main thing you can do to screw up VDC is screw up the tire height difference to much.

It comes down to how much adjustability you want! Stance gr+ coils give you low & dampening while teins basics only gives you ride height adj. D-specs and springs give you dampening adj. only while the ride height is fixed.

Quality of dampening also matters, D-Specs will outperform the Stance dampers all day long.

thank you again everyone, I feel like I have a little more info to do some research on. While everyone is not pointing in the same direction (rarely do on forums) I feel like I have a little better starting place as far as some decent companies go for the price range I am looking at.
Would you guys ever buy used? or is there a few sites that people prefer to purchase from? any guys to stay away from as far as horrible customer service? once I get a few good sites, I might start making some phone calls tomorrow.

stance are probably the most garbage coilovers ive ever seen, plus they leak after having them for like 1k miles lol

+1 on the D specs. You could also look into the koni yellows. IMO if you get coilovers you should expect to pay at least 2K and get something quality. Anything in the $1000 range is junk.

I realize that $1000 is not a lot, but that is all my budget can afford at the moment. I am saving to visit my 8 y/o daughter in Misawa, Japan for christmas, which does not look like is going to happen either. The VA (Veterans Affairs) for all you non military people has changed the way they are paying their people using the GI Bill for college. so my funds are low at the moment and I am due to graduate in August. Possibly going back in the Air Force or Coast guard as a commissioned officer... then I would have the petty cash floating around to drop 2-3G on a suspension. The reality of my situation though, Is I only have about 1G I can put into this (pending if this guy buys my 67' Fender Vibrolux amp from me) I would like something I can adjust up and down a little, but that in 6 months I won't have to re-buy...
Thanks to all those who have been so helpful, especially since I am new to this scene and I have virtually ZERO experience in the Nissan/japanese realm
