Default Question on Stock Struts vs HP Blues comp/rebound

I bought a set of Tokico HP Blues and they claim its 30% stronger then the oem struts/shocks. Well after taking them out of the box, I compress and depress both to compare and my 70k miles oem are harder to push down then the NEW HP. What gives? How do these thing work, i mean do they get stiffer as speed increases because at a stand still, the oem is much stiffer then the HPs.

Any input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Your testing method is crude and inconclusive:

Dampers are designed to restrict decompression.
Springs are designed to restrict compression.

Its very simple. Pushing down on the HP is much easier then the oem. If you want more specifics, I myself did both of the tests using both the same methods with the utilization of my own two hands with my left hand on top of my right and in a standing position Last time I check dampers aid in both compression and rebound. Dampers and springs work together to aid in the vehicle's handeling.

I paired hp blues with h-tech springs after my stock shocks gave out on the same springs. There is def an improvement over stock shocks. A tad bit firmer but still feels very stockish.

Its a simple question guys. We don't need to go all high tech and call in the professional to tell you one compresses some odd lbs and one this, etc. Again, its very simple. The oem struts required more strength to push the thing down and it came back up much faster then the HP. I just want to know if anyone has notice or compared the two off the car like I have done.

Perhaps next time I'll build a seat on top of it and sit on it with a stopwatch to be up to you guy's testing standards Dam! Somebody needs to buy themselves a new blowup doll.

Your "test" is still inaccurate. If you want to make a real comparison then you need to use a shock dyno.

Perhaps you guys carry one if these in your pocket

I can see it now; "coilover for sale" "before I buy them I have to test to see if these dampers are good. Hold on while my buddy unload my special shock absorber testing machine out of our uhaul. By the way, do you have a 220 connection I can hook up to?"

Are you kidding? Everyone has one of these in their garage You're crude if you don't. My damper dyno is setup in my bedroom. You can see it at work right before I go to bed. But you must wear eye protection. Permanent blindness could be a factor.

You can send them to a shop that has one if knowing the difference is so important to you...

Just install the dampers take the car to the track and have fun.

I'm not going to hammer you about how you tested them, but I do have a important question. I have some shock dyno's and what you sensed, actually shows up on the dyno.

Does your Z have the unrevised suspension?

Unrevised shocks have the shock part number stamped into the steel case sides.

Revised shocks have sticker labels that show the shock part numbers.

I have a 2004 and they're the unrevised ones. Perhaps there's more to it when it comes to dampers. At a stand still, they're not working at their maximum potential vs when they're moving on the road.

"All modern shock absorbers are velocity-sensitive -- the faster the suspension moves, the more resistance the shock absorber provides. This enables shocks to adjust to road conditions and to control all of the unwanted motions that can occur in a moving vehicle, including bounce, sway, brake dive and acceleration squat."
