Default Can i remove the adjustment collar on H&R coilovers?

I have a set of H&R coil overs, the front is at the height I'm looking for but the rears don't go low enough for my liking. I have about one full turn left to lower the rear collar and i currently have about 1 finger gap. If i just remove the collars on the rear coil overs to lower it an extra quarter inch or so would that be ok? I don't see why it would cause any problems but just wanted to ask before removing it.

Thanks

I'm actually in the same boat. If the springs are still secure, there's no reason not to do it as long as the shocks don't bottom out. H&R may not have designed them to go that low though, so basically try it and see what happens. I would do it, but I need the clearance to change tires while drifting; I already have enough of an issue getting a jack under there with a flat tire, lol.

I have the same coilovers, and felt the same way. Remove the rear rubber springmounts, and cut a 1/2" to 3/4' off. Mine looks perfect now. I cut off 5/8ths of an inch. Here is the link to the springmount mod diy. https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-...mount-mod.html. It took me about and hour to do both sides.

I rather not cut the spring mounts in case I ever want to go back to stock height to sell the car or something without buying new spring mounts. It doesn't seem like there's anything special about the interface between the bottom if the spring and the collar so as of now I'm planning on removing the collars and seeing how it works out. Kind of pisses me off that even at the lowest setting on these coil overs there is still noticeable wheel gap in the rest but you can easily tuck the front tires.

Its probably because they know there is no need to lower the car that much.

But being able to slam the front end is also part of their plan too right

Most mods people do are not out of necessity, but I know your a die hard track guy, and can appreciate your mind set is function over form. Not all of us have the same mind set.

Different style front design, byproduct if running the shock fully threaded.

In the same situation but with Tein basics. The front is perfect but the rear not so much. I want to remove the collars but I've asked many people with no definite answer.

While I'm sure it's not recommended, it's pretty common practice to remove collars for a lot of different cars.

Pretty much this. I've even had friends flip the bottom mounts upside down on 240s to get moar lows.

As long as everything is tight and the collars are the right outer diameter, you're good to go imo. Just don't be surprised if H&R voids your warranty.

Figured I'd update this thead: Removing the collar doesn't work with these coilovers. The outer diameter of the spring seat is too small for the spring diameter so the spring doesn't sit properly without the collar in place.

YOu can only remove one collar, after that the spring mount mod would be needed.

I see what you're saying:

The OEM upper spring mount isn't used with these BUT, OP have you tried replacing the entire H&R upper assembly (spring seat/collar) with the OEM spring mount? Just a thought.

I'm not sure if Im following your question fully, but the stock upper spring mount is used with these coilovers. The spring seat and collar sit in the stock spring bucket.

My apologies, I didn't think these were adjustable from the bottom:

Did you keep your lower spring mount in like this guy did?

No the lower spring mount was removed at the time of installation so I have the "metal to metal" interface that the guy in that thread is talking about.

In that case it looks like the spring mount mod is your only option. It's really not that bad, if you have to go back to stock it just evens out the rear with the front; or eliminates the rake, if you will. I have my old ones already cut (Eibach coilovers don't reuse them) if you want to experiment.
