Default Need help choosing springs!

Hey guys,

So I want to swap out the springs on my coilovers. I want to go with swift springs, but am unsure as to which specs to go with. I have tanabe pro-soc coils right now, but I don't like the ride at all. Its a bit too bouncy and I think new springs will solve the problem?? I was thinking of getting a 7 inch spring with 10k. The spring specs for the tanabe pro s-oc is 10k front and 8k rear. Will this be okay? I am only doing this because the ride is just too bouncy for me, gives me a headache haha The link below is a pdf file from swift's website that shows the custom/universal springs you can choose from. Has anyone purchased and used these instead of the usual sport or spec r springs?? Thanks

How much drop are you running?

Unfortunately, more spring = even more bounce.

I would run 9k fronts and 7k rears,

How bad is the bounce. Annoying or you must be joking level?

You'll want to measure the outside diameter of your Pro-soc rear springs.

Swift makes 5" outside diameter springs, but I don't think they make 5.5"

And you'll have to modify one end of the spring so it can sit in the oem lower control arm.

oh, so you're saying a 10k in the rear will be more bouncy than a 7k rear?

I am at the preset level in the fronts, but the rears, I don't have the top hat, I replaced it with a rubber hat that is a lot slimmer, for a bigger drop. No collars either. Also, I am running 370z tanabe springs in the rear, the vendor I ordered from said these would provide a bigger drop, which it didnt. Do you think it might have something to do with the 370z springs in the rear making my car bouncy? The bounce is annoying, if the road is not 100 percent flat/smooth, the car will giggle up and down almost like a bobble head, gives me a headache.

Also, do I have to modify the swift springs because they aren't the sport or spec r springs and instead the universal ones? Or else how do people install swift springs on their cars without modifying the springs?

Most of us who install Swift springs have coilovers that are setup for either 2.25 ID or 2.5 ID springs. Makes it simple that way.

Im not sure what id my springs are, but they can utilize the stock rubber top hat, does anyone know if swift springs fit those as well?

Also, terrasmak, do you have any idea why my ride is that like?

Your a little whiny prema donna than nothing can satisfy
Your car is to low
install was completely and totally screwed up.

Any , or all the above could be the problem.

tanabe sells different coilover springs but as far as the z springs for that rear spring bucket, I don't think they have any different specs. It's kind of hard to tell from this list though. If it was a true coilover it would be easier to swap out the springs.

^^Yea, I am not sure which specs to choose for the new springs. Does anyone know if I choose shorter/longer or lower/higher spring rates will make my ride more bouncy? I want to know if its better to get a 7 inch spring with 7k or 10k.....

Also, terrasmak, these dont have dampening adjustment, install was done by a professional, the roads are fairly smooth, and I am not that low, the fronts have an inch gap between fender and tire, and the rears are barely at tire height, but i might just be a little b about it haha. Btw, the rears are much lower than the fronts, does that affect anything?

Terrasmak, i have another question for you. The tanabe coils/springs for the 350z are a 10k front and 8k rear, and the 350 weights more than the 370z. The 370z tanabe coils/springs are a 10k front and 9k rear. Apparently, my vendor sent me 370z springs for the rear, 9k. Do you think that could remotely affect how my ride is right now? I am just trying to find any kind of solution before blindly purchasing new springs, thanks for the help :]

Ive tried looking for the answer by searching online, but can only find stupid responses, and tanabe won't pick up. I might have to try the 370z forum since most of them are a lot older and hopefully more knowledgeable about our cars....
