Default Is Squeeling Normal

Ok, so here is my setup.

OEM Brembo Calipers purchased from a member on this site
Power-Slot slotted rotors
EBC Red pads
SS Brake Lines

Performance wise, its much better than my stock setup.
Looks wise, its much much better looking than my stock setup.

But damn it, its embarassing to drive my car around. Every time I come up to a slow roll or a red light its squeels like an old delivery truck. Everyone looks at me and its for the wrong reason. I went back to the shop yesterday because I was getting some new spacers put on and the mechanic told me that I should give them time to brake in. He said usually 500 to 1000 miles. I don't know if thats true or not. On my TL I had Stoptech rotors and street pads and never once a single squeel.

If I'm driving around and I hit the brakes from a high speed no noise. But if i feather them or don't apply a lot of pressure it squeels. So is this normal? Am I supposed to be going through a brake in period? I don't think the pads were bedded in because the mechanic told me something about the EBC Reds not requiring it. I've never had EBC before so not sure if its the pad or just something I have to wait out. Thanks in advance.

They put the stop squeal stuff on the pads?

New rotors? or where the rotors turned?

If not those wait out the "break in" period and next time get a better pad, ive never had squealing issues unless it was an install problem

Some brake pads are noisy. Some quiet. Its not a functional problem just annoying.

Brand new Rotors
Brand new Pads
Brand new lines

The shop told me EBC Red were reputable, low dust, and good performers so I went with it. They are a reputable shop on these boards and told me these were good so thats why I was fine with keeping them.

I did see the mechanic using a spray on the rotors. he said the reds came lubricated for anti-squeel already.

The spray on the rotors was probably brake clean to clean off shipping grease/oils before installation.

As for the pads being pre-lubricated I have never heard of that. I just did my brakes the other day with Powerslot Rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Used the provided anti-squeal grease and applied liberally to the pad between the shims. I have no squealing at all.

I use the EBC reds on all (5) of my cars, and hve never had a noise issue with them. Take a look at these links:

+10000 you need to bed in your brakes at least once and you will probably need to do it twice. this should stop the squealing hopefully.

Do you have the stainless steel Brembo pad shims installed, You have to transfer them to the new pads? Also did you use some Nissan hi-temp anti-squeal grease or other product on the shims? Vibrations on the backside of the pads cause squealing. With a slow rolling stop, the pads are not subject to much clamping force and are free to vibrate, the shim and viscous grease act to dampen the vibrations and prevent squeals.

I replaced the pads and rotors on my Z recently (well the gent from down the street did the heavy lifting and explained each step while I made sammiches) and my job was to clean and fuss over the shim installation.

Thanks for all the advice. Here are my answers.

@ 350zzjoe - you are right. it was to clean them, now tha tyou mention it I remember. i don't think they used anti-squeel.

@dcains, terasmack, and realist - I'm definitely going to go out and bed them in soon as I can make some time. Not sure why they told me they were already bedded, sounded weird to me but I went with that the shop said.

@ Jennifer, they did transfer the shims. I just don't think they did the anti-squeel cause I watched the whole process and I don't recall them doing that.

I will try bedding them in first and report back. If that doesn't fix it i will try getting anti-squeel next. if that doesn't fix it i'm just gonna ***** a lot and get them to replace them since I had asked for Hawk HPS to begin with anyway and they ended up getting me the reds.

Thanks again.
