Question removing brake rotors

Any ideas or tips to taking the rotors off? Is it true you just take the caliper off and the rotor slide off. Seems too easy.

The fronts are that way, the rears have a snug fit on the inside diameter and you have to work it out a little bit. Some have had to use a mallet to tap it out, I just had to wiggle it back and forth a few times.

how did you break the two 22mm bolts loose? Did you use an impact wrench?

I used a 1/2" drive wrench and to get it started used a rubber mallet since it is hard to get a breaker bar in there if you don't have it on a lift.

It is just the wrench with the biggest drive so it is the longest wrench.

The size of the drive is the little square part where the socket goes on the wrench.

Ok I see, yeah I used that, and we banged the hell outta it with a hammer. We even used wd40. Maybe I need some liquid wrench? It is making me think that it is a reverse thread.? I guess not.

They are just very tight, everything on this car seems to have been tightened by the hulk.

But it can be done. Sometimes it helps if you try to tighten it and then losen it, it seems to break the hold on it.

To get some leverage try attaching some vice grips to the end of the wrench, kind of a mini breaker bar, I think there is enough room for that.

same issue last night.. I'm trying to pull the caliper off, and those 22mm bolts are killer. I'm going to spray with WD40 today and try again.

In the rear....DO NOT FORGET TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE if you're going to try and remove the rear. Don't ask me how I know...heh.

Good tip, also in case you haven't meesed with the brakes before, don't forget to keep an eye out on the brake fluid as you spread the calipers, you might to get some out so it doesn't overflow.

Sorry, it is just that when you push the calipers out to make room for the thicker rotors or pads since the old ones are thinner, the fluid will go back into the reservoir and if it is close to full it might overflow specially by the time you get to the last caliper.

It is a b*tch, I am borrowing a friends torque wrench and impact wrench.

Btw, what are the tq specs for those two bolts? Is it the same for the rears?

Heh...i didn't break anything. This was back before I was at StopTech...I was lying in my driveway last summer, trying to get the rotors off. I hit the thing with a hammer a few times...nothing doing. I finally just gave up and put the wheel back on. I posted on the boards and got that answer...boy did I feel stupid!

That's what the forums are for!
