Default Akebono brake kit from Z1 Motorsport

Hi everyone,

Just received the package from Z1 Motorsport today, and I have couple questions for people who have this same kit from Z1. I will post this thread in their sale post as well.

As you see in the first pic, there are scratches on the back of caliper, so I was wondering if it's normal since it supposed to be brand new.

Is the rotor below normal?

Thanks for your help.

Congrats on your brake kit br0!

New caliper shouldn't look like that but it doesn't affect the brakes performance, just surface damage so I think it's okay. Are you getting them re-powder coated or you sportin' that Infiniti badge on your brakes?

The rotors... I don't know, you should get another set or something because that ding doesn't look pretty on a new rotor.

Rotor is probably fine; I ordered some rotors that came with worse dents, and are running fine. Enjoy your brakes

Yeah, the back side of the caliper looks just like my akebono calipers. It's not a show quality finish like brembos may appear, but it's not visible from the outside and will look fine when mounted.

The rotor may have gotten a ding, but it's on the edge and has no bearing on the quality of your braking performance.

So, on both accounts, you're solid.

Thanks again guys for the inputs.

I want to get it powder coated but afraid to remove the piston. Therefore, look like I'm going to paint it. Please advise.

I would leave it before painting it. Stock or powdercoat.

mine are painted.. I used engine paint turned out awesome, and looks just as good as powder coating. still looks great 1 year later.. saved 100s too!

Just be careful bleeding the brakes because it will eat your paint fast!

the front of the caliper doesn't look that nice from being brand new.. looks like they repaint them or something.

it could be just the picture, but I think you should be able to feel and see the paint in a closer look.

Look at the bolts on the first pic. They have been torqued before. At least that's what it looks like to me. I think these have been mounted before.

They are likely fine and functional, but crappy they were advertised as new. Probably better described a "used but like new"

After doing research, look like these calipers were rebuilt. OEM caliper should be painted front and back.

So Z1 sells rebuilt kits for the Akebono brake kits?

I haven't heard back from Z1 yet, so not sure. I've posted my question in their sale thread.
