Default Akebono doesn't work with my wheels...

I bought this kit recently and did the rears and they fit with no issues. Today I did the fronts....the install was pretty easy the problem is my wheels, they dont clear. I have Varrstoens ES 6's +22 in the front with a 10mm spacer. I had a 5 lying around so I put that on as well, it works but it's very close.

I really think a 20mm would be perfect, would I rub I the front lowered on S Techs with a 255 35 19? I would be running +2 with a 20mm correct? Is there a list of wheels that work with these brakes?

Yes of course you would rub

If you want to run those wheels and brakes you are going to need to remove portions of your fender lining and add some negative camber

Thank you sir.... This is not great news. I thought I remember a list of wheels that will work with Akebonos, am I wrong about that? I couldn't find any thing.

What am I looking for in wheels for these brakes? I'm new to BBK's.

In hindsight you could have used the Akebono caliper template to check whether your wheels would fit.

What you can use all depends on what you want to pay, we can try to figure what fits for you.

The wheels you bought probably couldn't even fit the Brembo's let alone the larger caliper profile Akebonos

Damn this sucks... I just figured they would work. I thought I read about people using 18's with these brakes. So is it offset that determines if they will work or not?

Normally yes but unfortunately you bought a replica wheel in which the authentic version normally comes in different disc sizes so that you can customize the wheel to fit your brakes. The only options you were given was offset which is half the solution.

I would personally get rid of those wheels and save up for the authentic versions if you like that style.

If you have 18's with a step lip the inside of the barrel is actually a 17. Offset and disk is what you should be looking at to clear big brakes.

So like I said I'm new to the whole BBK set up, what are some wheels that will work? Give me an idea of what brands I should be looking at. I'm not looking to spend 4 grand on wheels, not gonna happen. I'll have to keep my eyes open on CL for some thing used, I just don't know what to look for.

Track wheels from brembo (rays) 350Z will work, g37 coupe 19's (enkei) will work since they're built for the calipers, G35 coupe 19's (rays) will also work. Those are cheap alternatives as the wheels are easy to find.

I'm not sure which replica wheels will work, but there has to be some. I would do google searches for G37's or 370Z's with akebonos and see what rims they're running.

Thanks for the help. I'm really disappointed, I never expected this. I guess I have some research to do.

Rick! No no no. You're supposed to tell the OP there is no choice but to sell the brakes for cheap.

V1 Rays Track wheels will absolutely not work with Akebono's (on the front, obviously).

Is that caliper shaved? You can make anything fit if you want it to bad enough, but without shaving I don't think it will work. This was shown in a thread last year by a German Z owner who bought the CZP adapters, and it's also mentioned in either the Z1 or CZP Akebono sale threads.

It doesn't seem like there are many wheels that will work. I can't believe this is such an issue. If I had known I wouldn't have bought them. What about Volk GT S or Volk Challange?
