Question Track Pads

I know there is another thread going on brake pads, but I was looking for some direction on track pads for a Z w/o the Brembos.

I was thinking using the EBC 'Redstuff' or the Hawk Blue 9012, but was wondering if these will work on the street in between track days.

Building on that, at what point should I consider going with a brake kit?

Can I 'get by' with just replacing the rotors (EBC Sports), SS lines and pads? Can anyone offer some advice to a budding track addict with a limited budget?

Thanks,
Rich

Try nothing else but Carbotech XP9. I have tried everything in thier catalogue for my non-brembo brakes before I finally found that compound. For those brakes, that is as good as it will get. I ended up getting the 14" Stoptech kit b/c I found that unacceptable for the amount of track use my car will see. Get ready to get a lot of replacement rotors too. Luckily they are cheap from carbotech as well.

Default Re: Track Pads

Hawk Blues are abrasive when cold (i.e. outside their operating temp) and should not be used on the street. In fact, Stoptech recommends running a set on the street for a couple of days to remove uneven rotor deposition.

I'm currently running Hawk Blues in my Track model for the track. I didn't get any sign of fade unlike the Ferodo DS2500 street/track pads I ran before, however, the Blues have very aggressive initial bite and would cause my ABS to kick in mucho sooner. Then again, my last track weekend was back in Dec 6-7 at MSR.

If you're determined to stick w/ the factory brakes, then the only thing I can recommend is finding a pure race pad and better brake fluid. If you overheat your rotors, then that heat is gonna move up to the pads and brake fluid.

Michael.

I second the Carbotech XP 1109. Tried the Hawk HP Plus and these are in a different league. Highly recommend.

Carbotech is the only brake pads I spend my money on. I use them on all my race cars and all my street cars.

here's another vote for Carbotech... I use XP front and rear at the track and Bobcat front and rear on the street.

Talk to Matt at Carbotech... he knows his stuff.

Well, I'm changing to Hawk HP+ in front, HPS in rear so I can maintain 'streetability'. While I'm at it, I'm changing out to SS lines and Motul 600F fluid. If things still are really bad, I'll reconsider the BB upgrade.

BTW, I heard Stoptech is going to be the recommended aftermarket supplier of brakes of Nissan.

BTW-2, Mike in Dallas, are you a member out at MSR? I recently joined at it would be great to see you out there sometime.

Hey BigRich.... check out The Driver's Edge for track events at MSR and Texas World Speedway. www.thedriversedge.net

There's an event this weekend at MSR and one at TWS MArch 6th and 7th.

Not a member, but droideka and I will be there next Thu (Feb 12) for a one day event by EDP Racing ( http://www.edpracing.com ). I'll be back later this month (Feb 28-29) for Maverick-region PCA's DE.

Say... since you've got a membership, you could bring guests huh...

Michael.

There will an informal brake comparison done at Mid-Ohio in April at a NASA event comparing the Cobalt VR pads, Panther Plus, PFC, and Ferodo pads (possibly Hawks too)... it'll be fun to see what happens (of course the driver is a factor too)...

Shame whoever is doing this comparison won't be using our latest racing compounds, like XP9. IMO, that's an apples/oranges comparison right there.

I didn't realize Hawk had an application for the rear of the 350 non-Brembo. Did they just come out with that?

Sorry, I should have used an etc. as I don't know exactly who has what pad. I didn't mean to mention Panther Plus, but one of your pads (must have been the alcohol talking last night ) which EnthuZ is using. As for the Hawk pads, I'm not exactly sure, but most of us have the Brembo application.

Yes, I ran Panther + through 7 track days. VERY happy with both their track performance and their streetability. Tried XP's on the rear for my last event and was very pleased. BTW, I run Stoptech's 13.1" front with enthusiast rear brakes.

I need to call Matt for his suggestions for soon to be purchased replacement pads.

Both have caused NO rotor wear, and other than squeeks, NO problem with street performance.

Matt, for all my complements, when do I get a discount?
