Default Akebono BBK

Hey, guys!

I Bought my 350 recently, used, at a very reasonable price. Ive had a few issues with it, but they have mostly been worked out already. After getting everything in order, a new problem emerged. one of my rear calipers is shot, and has been rubbing for the past few days. Im looking to set some funds aside and just do a BBK swap on my stock 03 touring setup. I wanted to know, other than the kit itself do i need anything else to set it up properly? (e.i brackets to mount the calipers, spacers for the wheels or will the stock 18x8 clear the calipers and rotors etc) Love to hear from anyone running the Akebono BBK on their Z.

you'll need this
http://infiniti.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/Performance/G35Coupe-2007/4659.html

unless i'm retarded there is no reason that won't work for the z.
but others can chime in. the only other people i know that make the bracket is z1 motorsports and they want 150 for it.

I have the akebono kit and love it. I was getting bad brake fad on the tail of the dragon before and have never had it since. It is a little heavier than the brembo brakes, but cheaper and won't have to be rebuilt like many of the brembo calipers for sale.

The read calipers are direct bolt on, the fronts need a bracket which I got from Z1 (along with their SS lines, which are awesome).

I bought my rotors from a vendor here and calipers from car-parts online (they are from a junk yard). They were scratched, but work perfectly and even paying for the brackets the setup was still cheaper than buying brembos.

No idea if your stock wheels will fit over them, but you can get your stock brakes up and running for cheap, really cheap. Use the money for wheels and other nice stuff first.

If you’re looking for a budget BBK:

1) Akebono - Will run you around 1200-1400 used, 1700-2100 new. You’ll also need the front bracket from either CZP or Z1, as well as the pads, rotors, and brake lines. The prices I mentioned reflect all that you’ll need for the wap.

2) OEM Brembo - Around 900 for the calipers, 1200 for a used set. Direct fit onto your vehicle, no bracket needed.

Keep in mind the Akebono's won't clear certain wheels, you can print out their caliper template to check with whatever wheel or search around for setups. They WILL clear the OEM Touring V2 wheels though.

Another idea is the 06 base brakes. They are about the size of Brembos but with 2 pistons instead of 4. Big upgrade from the stock 03 brakes (1" bigger rotors and 1 more piston in front), cheaper than Brembo/Akebono. I have mine on the way for my 04 touring.

I'd be concern about your wheels, it barely fit the 06 oem wheels.

and for your reference, i got my set used for $900, and since the seller was willing to help with my install, i gave another $200 for his help

here is also a link to my previous post when i bought mine:

Don't you also have to remove the dust shields or trim them for both front and rear?

I'd imagine you will have to do that whenever you get a larger size rotor than your OEM size

Not true at all. The front needs to be trimmed or removed because it blocks the adapter.

The dust shield needs trimmed. It is about a 1.75" cut I did in about 4 minutes with a Dremel cutoff wheel.

See my newer thread here for more info.
