Default Do I need struts and shocks or both?

There's a bit of confusion, or misinformation in some of these threads. I've read that the 350z does not have struts in a thread that makes no sense.

I have 196k on my Z with original shocks or struts, and the front end has become floaty. I'd like to buy a set to bring to my mechanic for installation. Does anyone have recommendation for OEM replacement site, or as close to OEM as possible? Also what have you been charged for installation?

Long time, Bro!
A "strut" setup simply means the shock and spring are mounted as 1 assembly (fronts). The rears are conventional. Oems are no longer made. You need shocks. Dunno about cost, I DIYd.
Bilstein B6 is an excellent choice, B8 if lowered.

That's incorrect. A MacPherson strut setup does not utilize an upper control arm, only a lower control arm. The Z has a double wishbone (upper and lower control arms) with a coil-over shock. While the ride height is not adjustable, it is still considered a coil-over shock.

You are correct, my friend. Point taken each time you endeavor to correct my advice .
Technically you are correct, Mully. I do like the way you describe them, thank you! For what's it worth I give the "Reader's Digest" version to folks without any expertise, ( I think it's easier to digest) and always remind them to replace their "shocks" on a Z33.
Clearly you are either old enough or have researched the introduction of "McPherson Struts." "Coil-over shock" may confuse some folks, but hey- thanks for your input!
