Bought my roadster last August from an older gent who kept her in pretty pristine condition. I’ve slowly been adding things to make it mine and I finally decided to upgrade the suspension. Although it only has 62k miles, I was pretty sure the shocks were shot. After lots of lurking here and reading plenty of posts I decided to go with Bilstein B6s and TEIN H-tech springs. I wanted to maintain the current height and improve the performance slightly and not break the bank. Since this is my daily driver I also wanted to keep it comfortable riding. Finished the rears tonight and will hit the fronts tomorrow. I really hope there’s some settling cause it looks like I lifted the car lol.
Before About to go on Floating car lol B6s and TEINs installed on the rear Both rear shocks didn’t extend when I compressed them Did I just lift my Z?
Looks good. I hope they do settle. Once you install them all, take the car for an easy drive around the block or neighborhood (not on the freeway) and try to feel/listen to bumps, creaks, noises, etc. Good luck!
I have the same coils and they sat rear-high. I did the spring mount mod (cut about 1/2" off the upper rubber isolator above the spring) and it dropped the rear about 1/2", making it close to even with the front. Also make sure that the isolators are sitting in same position as when you removed the stock springs. If they twist, the end of the coil could end up closer to the inside of the control arm, which would have a tendency to lift the car. If you tightened the bolt from the lower control arm to the spindle when the car was in the air, it'll have a constant torsion on the rubber bushing causing some extra stress there. Try loosening the nut while the car is on the ground, bounce the car around a few times, then re-tighten. For what it's worth my car appears to sit much lower with the same springs, but stock shocks.
When you do the front, it's much easier to remove the upper ball joint in order to get the shock out / in.
Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Went ahead and finished up the front today. Not a terrible experience, but not fun either. I think the worst part was compressing the springs just so I could get the rubber seats from the originals. There was no doubt I needed to do this job. Every one of the shocks I pulled off the car did not expand when I compressed them. Guess the springs were the only thing holding the car up. Took it for a spin after I got everything buttoned up and holy crap what a difference! Gonna wait a week then get an alignment done.
Before install Stock shocks and springs. Shocks had nothing left in them. Installed. Had to disconnect the upper arm to get enough room to pull the assembly in and out. After install Took it for a drive after install. Couldn’t hear any odd noises from the suspension. It seemed to have settled a bit after I did this.
