Alignment with aftermarket wheels?
Does anyone know for certain whether an alignment is required when changing to wider aftermarket rims, paricularly when switching from stock 17" to 19x8.5, 19x9.5? The overall diameter is the same, just the widths are different.
It's hard to tell because of the large tread spacing of my new tires, but I think that they are starting to feather. I had the initial tire swap and alignment done on the stockers after they started to feather and then put the new wheels on shortly after that. I just want to make sure that if the feathering is still occuring, it's not because of an out-of-alignment condition again.
Also, assuming that the alignment is still good, can I take this issue up with the dealer with the aftermarket wheels on the car? Or will they deny any responsibility because the wheels and tires aren't OEM?

It shouldn't make a difference as the wheel should sit the same, the alignement is for the car itself.
As for Nissan covering your aftermarket tires I think you are probably out of luck, when I got my tires replaced they refused to get different tires for stock wheels.

no reason to align the car when you put on new wheels, unless you just want to spend the money...
if your car was feathering the tires before, it will likely feather the new tires just the same... the alignment TSB does not always fix the problem, sometimes you need new control arms. That is a battle you will have to fight with your dealer.
If you have already had your one free alignment it is unlikely the dealer will do it again, OEM wheels or aftermarket wheels. You can pay them to do one. The dealer has little ground to stand on if they try to claim the aftermarket wheels are causing the tires to feather.... they can claim that, but it's hard to prove the wheels are the problem.

Where did you get the info on the need for new control arms?
I've tried to keep on top of the whole tire feathering fiasco, but there's just so much info that it's hard to sort through it all.
I wouldn't expect the dealer to replace my new tires, but I hope they can offer a permanent fix soon so I don't have to blow through $1000 tires every year.
