Default Help with Tein EDFC install

I wanted to install EDFC in my 2004 350z along with Tein Flex coilover but my installer said I need to cut into the front strut bar mount as well as the rear strut area for the motors to fit??? He also mentioned that the rear strut area seems to be different from the 2003, so it is harder to install EDFC. Is he correct??

I tried to search on the board but it does not seem like the EDFC is too complicated for most people to install. Has anyone successfully installed EDFC with Flex in a 2004 without too much cutting/drilling? Any advice or actual pictures will be appreciated. Thanks!!

I wish I could be of more help butI did the install on my car, not an 04 but an 03, and it is tough getting all the wiring in but there was penty of room for the motors....

THere might have been a minor change on 04 but I doubt that it would prevent the motors from fitting.. might have made wireing more dificult

Has your installer installed the EDFC on a Z??? it is not that hard... I just can be a PITA in the rear.

Again, he might have to drill a hole or make a hole bigger but I don't see nissan making such a big change that it would require major modificarion to the car...

If anyone had pics of the area without the plastic panels I could tell if was diffrent than the 03 or not..

good luck

You do not have to cut anything on the front... nore do you have to cut anything to get the wires in through the fire wall and into the cabin...

for the rear... you need to make some holes in the rear strut bar larger to get the motor in there....

it wont damage the bar.. and the wholes dont need to be huge... too bad we dont have a car getting another one installed rite now id go take a pic

Okk... went out and took some pix...

The hole where I am pointing.... the 2nd hole in on the rear bar... drill 4 holes... one in each corner... and then use those as a guide to cut a square out. then use something to buff down any sharp edges and maybe some electrical tape incase something rubs...

good luck!

Jason:

Thank you so much the photos. I really appreciate it. I will contact my installer and show him these pics. Hopefully I will have the EFDC installed soon.

no problem good luck and I know you will enjoy the suspension...

just make sure.. they install the motors on the top of the shock before they put them in the car... then they run the wires up through the hole that is cut... or else it is hard to get to the part of the motor needed to lock it to the top of the shock...

all in the manual of the EDFC unit...

I had to do ZERO drilling in the rear strut tower.

The connectors will go through the existing holes (unless in the 04 for some odd reason they made them smaller ).

No drilling is required for routing and mounting the servos + wires so if you are... then you should rethink your plan.

The mounting of the EDFC is where the drilling/cuting/dremeling will most likely occur.

nwind21, thanks for the reply. Do you remember whether your holes in the rear strut tower are bigger than the ones shown in Jason's photos?

Also, I spoke to my installer. He said when he tried to mount the front struts with the servo motors on them, he was unable to tighten the bolts due to lack of clearance. Does this sound correct? Is he doing something wrong? Once again, all your help is really appreciated.

i think your installer may not be too sharp, you need to get your car to performance nissan and get it all done so you can enjoy the unit. while you are there, tighten up that bouncy ride... WERD.

Default Well, I think I found out the problem...

All it took was reading the manual which I think my installer never even bother to open he did not change the little screw at the top of the sturt, thus making the motor sit much higher than it should. I believe this is why he was having clearance problems. I will definitely chew him out tomorrow Thanks to all who tried to help me.

Lastly, where in the firewall did you all run the cabling from under the hood to inside the car??? I don't trust my installer so I want to make sure he does it correctly...

there is a point where all the wiring goes into a rubber part.. you can pop it up and run the wires through there... and they come out by the passanger's feet.. well from above...

you dont need to cut the rear strut if you cut the wires for the motors, but then that voids the tein warranty...

Jason, once again, thank you so much for your help. I know the area you are talking about. That is where I ran my amplifier power cables.

You don't need any bigger holes in the rear. Put the motor on the shock before you bolt it to the wheel well. run the end of the wire through one of the holes in the strut brace and then bolt the shock to the wheel well. I did no drilling at all.

Good luck,
Matt
