Default SS brake lines: 8 piece or 4 piece set?

I noticed that Stillen.com sells SS brake lines (TechnaFit too) that are 8 pieces a set that replaces all the brake lines, unlike the 4 piece set like the StopTech ones. I wonder if there are any advantage to this. I think this topic hasnt been covered before.

Hope there are experienced users on this

I'm not familiar with the specifics of the Z's brake lines but it sounds like there are more an just 4 rubber lines in the system. If there are, then replacing just 4 of them will accomplish nothing.

I've done steel braded lines on many cars but never really felt much difference on the newer cars. I noticed the difference on the older cars. Probably because the old rubber lines had years to soften and stretch.

The 8 piece set replaces the OEM lines one to one. The line runs down to a joint and from the joint to the caliper. The 4 piece set replaces "two for one" so you don't have the extra joint.

Why did Nissan designed it that way? Who knows. Is it better with 1 pieces vs 2 pieces and a joint? Without any proof it is most likely that is better since you have one less place for leaks, one less place for air bubbles, etc... But again, I have no proof of that.

I don't track my car. For a street application, you probably won't be able to tell the diff. I went with the Stillen 8 piece and I am happy with them.

Does anyone know if the Stillen front lines will work on Front Stoptech brake calipers?

Very perceptive benzz.

Yes & no. I did melt the outer clear protective coating, but the Teflon inner hose is fine. I ran the lines as instructed by Stoptech, yet their choice of routing puts the line too close to the hot rotor surface. I am VERY hard on my brakes at the track....I've only heard of 2 others having similar problems. Sadly, Stoptech has been less than helpful.

A friend bought a Stoptech kit recently, and his new lines do not have the clear coating...........NOT the way I would have solved the problem.

I don't want to slam Stoptech as they make a very good product. I just wish they were open to change.

I plan on doing something to route new lines as far away from the rotors as possible, like the OEM lines. Hopefully by Blackhawk 5/5 with PCA.

i see, maybe Nissan designed the stock lines the way it is because of this, wont you agree?
Good luck in what you will be doing, why not get the stillen lines? I may get them too

I did. And Bob. And Matt......

I won't get into their responces, but basically, it's not their problem. It's mine to fix.......on my own.

In hopes this get corrected for others ASAP, I'll post a pic:

The line is too close to the rotor and it looks like you have removed the heat shield, a good thing to do to cool the rotor, but it looks like a bad thing in this instance for the brake line.

One could have fluid overheat brake fade problems if the line gets to the boiling temp of the brake fluid inside, also heat cycling the line material like than is not a good thing I think.

Can line be routed farther from ther rotor? Fire sleeve from Earl's supply may be a good thing to insulate the line with if it can't be re-routed.

Not to be picky here...but does it really matter that your brake lines protective plastic cover melted? The line is stainless steel...there is no way you are going to melt through the actual line. Throw some heat sheilding material on it, and be done with it.

Judge, would please post more pics of your routing. Did you use the lines included with the StopTech kit? Or did you make different lines? It's been about a year since I installed mine, but I don't remember there being any extra length to make any changes. Yes, I tried a few. I wish I had found your solution.

Isn't it odd a certain "customer service" company isn't responding?

Amy - No problem. My car has never seen snow or rain. I keep it for the nice days and periodically use a wipe and clean spray on the entire underside.

EnthuZ - I used the StopTech lines without modification to length.
