Thumbs up New StopTech products on the way...

New gear, new gear!

1. After countless pleas for help, we've gone forward with the release of our direct replacement AeroRotors for the Track Model 350Z. They will be the same design as the rotors that we ship with our big brake kits. In other words, they will be fully floating, 2 piece rotors mounted to an anodized aluminum hat. The internal vane structure will be our proprietary design. They are direct replacements for the Track Model, so they are identical in size, etc. Prototype parts are alive in the world, and certain 350z's already wearing them. They are undergoing trial by fire. After testing on the prototype parts is complete, a full production run will be made. They will be on the shelf at some point this summer. No firm pricing yet, but they will be somewhere in the realm of $800-900 per pair. This is similar in price to the stock one-piece Brembo rotor price from the dealer (roughly $400 per rotor). However, once you buy our 2 piece setup, you will be able to reuse the aluminum hat, and just attach the new rotor which will cost roughly $200 each (including mounting hardware). Overall, a great long term proposition in terms of performance and price. This should hopefully put a little more 'track' into the Track Model.

We are not making the 13" rear kit that I've been promising though. We are making two of them instead...heh...sorry, couldn't resist.

The rear 13" kit is still alive and kicking. I had the first prototype caliper in my hand last week. The calipers are a two piston, two piece billet design, and they look beautiful. My engineer also gave me a look at mounting bracket technical drawings. This is going to be a sweet setup for the Z. The 2 piston rear will bolt up with both our current 332mm AND 355mm kits. In other words, existing owners that want more pad life than the tiny rears can muster can just buy the rear kit and bolt it on. It will be properly balanced for each application. The rear rotor used with this caliper will most likely be the 328mmx28mm. It will use the same pad shape as the rear of the Track Model Z. I'll try to price it as aggressively as possible, but it's safe to assume that it will be $1995 or less as discussed before. I will probably have these on my car within the next couple of weeks for testing, as will a number of Grand Am and World Challenge cars (not all Z's obviously). They'll probably be available for retail purchase by Late June or July. I'll post some pics once they're on my car.

Please don't call me or harass me about this. If you do, I'll keep your name on file, and add $100 to the price for each time you've contacted me. Before anyone cries and calls me insensitive...I'm kidding.

We will now officially have more parts for the 350Z than any other model we offer parts for...gee, I wonder how in the world that happened...

Happy braking to all.

ps The 911 Turbo that clinched the One Lap of America event this weekend was using a StopTech front big brake kit. The mechanic that prepped the car talked to my tech service mgr. this morning and called it 'hand of God braking.' I thought that was pretty damn cool, and really started my week off right. http://caranddriver.com/article.asp?...rticle_id=8095

Well, I was just about to pull the trigger on the DBA rotors all around before I saw this. DBA offers 2 piece rotors up front and 1 piece rotors in the rear. Will you offer 2 piece front and rear rotors or are you just offering the fronts?

Hmm.... what to do now? Wait or get the DBA's?

Ours will be 2 piece front and 2 piece rear...all the way around.

Do you need another person to 'test' any prototypes out?

Jeff, I think I know someone who can put some real heat into the 2 piece track rear rotors.........

What color purple do you want?

I'll be testing Monday.

Good news on the rear kit.
Nice idea on making it work with the 14" front kit too.

I'm disappointed you didn't contact me to try out a prototype set of the OE Brembo replacements Jeff...

Thank you all for the offers to test prototypes...I know that you are all just trying to make scientific progress, and I appreciate it.

Cheston,
Fortunately for me, rotor envy continues to run rampant! You guys are perpetuating the problem when you post your ridiculous twin turbo, uber horsepower, pimp mobiles with our brakes on them!

.. so when r we gonna see a 14.5" 6pot
I don't know about a 14.5" rotor, but we will be selling six piston calipers for certain applications soon. I haven't even considered using that caliper on the Z at this point though. It's definitely not necessary, and as I mentioned before, we already have more Z products than anything else!

This just complicates things. I used to want to get a Track with Navigation for the Brembo but it seems that I should get a Performance model and get the Stoptech solution later. Decsions, decisions.

Great news Jeff seeing as my stock Track rotors are pretty toasted (22 track days on them and still going!)
Could we do something about the price though. DBA has them listed at around $700.00 per pair and I've seen some shops selling them for around $650.00.

Speedform,
The price is actually very reasonable if you take a close look at what you're getting vs. the DBA's and factory Brembos.

Factory Brembos...we'll get this one out of the way first. One piece, curved vane, standard rotor. No bells no wistles. When they're dead, they're dead...you need to go out and buy another set at $800ish.

DBA...they are a two piece rotor, standard curved vane, but from what I can tell, they are not floating. A floating rotor means that the iron disc can expand without having the hat pulling on it at a fixed point. A typical result is uneven pad wear as the rotor heats and cones.

Our rotors have a proprietary internal vane design that flows more air than anything else out there, which means they run cooler. They are fully floating...the rotor is able to expand without having the hat limiting its expansion. This means that the rotor stays in line, and doesn't cone towards the hat and cause uneven pad wear. Our hats have directional standoffs that flow air across the outer face to promote more cooling and even pad wear vs. the inner pad. Once you make the initial investment on the hat/rotor combo, you can just buy replacement iron discs at about half the price as another set of Brembos...that's with hardware. These rotors have been proven on the race tracks and street. The technology you are getting with them is a steal at only a couple hundred more on the first time purchase!

Jeff, how much do each of these rotors weigh? Anyone know the weight of the OE Brembo rotors?

True, doesn't hurt to ask...and it's paying off.

Based on some new info that I received today, it's looking like we may be able to sell the Brembo replacements at a price substantially lower than $800 a pair. I won't venture to put a number on it yet, but it's going to be an incredible value.

Also, I snapped a few pics of the new ST-22 caliper...I'll post them soon. It is really cool.
