Default StopTech...great product, great support

I have recently become a convert to the StopTech upgrade society. Since installing their 13" front kit a few weeks ago (purchased from Performance Nissan...great vendor,) Ive had the chance to run 2 track events and I have to say that these brakes are worth every penny.

I competed in the first-ever SCCA Time Trials event (timed hot-lapping competition) this past weekend, and I can now say that my driving ability is my limiting factor on the track, and not my brakes (which is a polite way of saying that I overheated long before my brakes would have!!!!)

I have been overwhelmingly impressed with everything about StopTech. They took the time to answer all of my product feature & design questions before the purchase, and to answer all of my installation & operation questions after the purchase.

Thanks to StopTech, I can now concentrate on improving my driving ability at the track, rather than worrying about how quickly my Z's braking ability is fading. To bastardize a Gene Simmons quote: "What having brakes lets you do is it lets you not worry about having brakes."

Now on to the handling upgrades!

Are you a spokesman for Stoptech? How much do they pay?
Kidding....glad you likem'. Keep us informed on your on-track exploits. I'm running time trial through NASA sanctioned events using the stock Brembo's. So far they're holding up quite nicely (running Carbotech pads).

What kind of brake pads are you running with the stoptech for your track event?

I'm currently using the Carbotech XP8 compound on both the front and rear. They've performed well so far, although the pads on the OEM rears are wearing pretty quickly.

After I wear this set down I might go with the PFC 01's in the front, and possibly get the rear Stoptech 328 kit to have more compound choices and hopefully longer pad life.

Default questions

did you pay for the front stoptech? would a 14" and rears have better stopping power/fade resistance?

Did I pay for the StopTechs? Yes, I did. If you're asking how much I paid, I'll just say that I got a very competitive price.

StopTech themselves will tell you that the 14" kit may look better on the car than the 13" kit, but probably won't improve the fade resistance or stopping ability very much over the 13" kit to the point that you would feel the difference on the track in the context of a normal track day event.

On most cars you really only need to upgrade the fronts to beat fade. However, the Z is such a heavy car, with more rear-bias than most, and such a tiny rear brake pad, that upgrading the rears should give more benefit on this car than it does on most. That being said, the fronts are where you'll see most of the benefit.

I waited about 3 weeks for them (this was back in February.)

Hang in there, Mike. The wait will be well worth it!
