Hi guy's, I just recieved my new HPS street performance pads for my Z. I got them from thetirerack.com and I am going to install myself. What I found in the shipment was just two boxes, 1 front axle set and 1 rear axle set. My question is do I need some new backing plates, those thin metal things that install with the pads, and some of that special lube you put on the back of the pads? Or is their anything else I need besides the pads to do the job right?

URGENT!!

You need some tools, i.e. wrenches.

The metal shims can be reused.

Definately get some lube to put on the shims. They have some little packets of brake lube at Autozone.

Do a search on HokieZ and hawk to find HokieZ's pictorial on replacing pads.

It was really a piece of cake.

Thanks mgk65! I'm good to go to do it this weekend. It will be nice having better working pads that, also, don't dust out the front wheels nearly as much as the stock one do.

 

Any idea if the dealership sells the stock backing plates? My rear HPS's are squealing like a stuffed pig and I threw out the backing plates since they weren't necessary on the fronts...

 

DAMN me too. My produce NO dust at all but squeek like a mother. Does anybody know for sure what the cause is and what to do about it. I feel like an *** pulling up next to someone in my pimped out little rocket that sounds like a school bus!!!

Yes. You can get something called a 'brake hardware kit' (be sure to specify front or rear to the dealer) that includes the backing plates and the clips that hold the pads on the calipers.

 

you can get a brake hardware kit. Its for the non-brembo only though, and it does include the new backing shims, along with the other clips and do-dads. I get a 20% discount at my dealer, and it was about $45 for a front and rear set. Unfortunately, they don't help me since I have brembos.

 

Cool I have non brembo. Will this help for sure? Not sure I understand how the backing shims help. You sure this is the solution???

My rear passenger side kinda whistles all the time with the HPS pads :-( O well I'll deal.
