Brake upgrade for the ordinary driver
The only thing I plan on doing right now is the pad upgrade strictly for the issue with the factory ones putting off so much dust, it's getting annoying as hell and I have only had the car a little over a week.
The reason I asked about the rotors is because I have seen some people mention them warping (dunno if it's racers or not) and my previous car awhile back had issues. On my 1999 Grand Am GT I had the rotors replaced 10 times before 20,000 miles by the dealership. Now it didn't cost me anything but it was annoying to have to goto all the trouble.
I am trying to make a budget to spend on the car. My wife is in nursing school (we pay for out of pocket) and only works part time so I am trying not to get hit with a parts issue later on down because we can't spend alot of money at once on something. So what I am doing is doing research and making a list of what I would like to upgrade and possible future upgrades like:
Brake pads (dust issue is annoying)
Rotors (only in the event they have an issue)
Tires (if mine start feathering, not sure if my 2004 will have that issue)
Stereo
NISMO intake
NISMO exhaust
This way if something happens I will already have the money set aside so I don't go in the hole
But unless something happens I don't plan on replacing them, just getting my research on new ones out of the way now.

I would definitely change out the pads for the Hawk HPS.
The dust is almost non-existent and contrary to some opinions that you won't notice a performance increase on the street...YOU WILL notice a considerable difference. The HPS pads bite a lot better than stock. The only down-side is they squeak a little. Nothing too bad, and certainly a worthwhile trade off for the damn dust.
Cheapest place to buy Raceshopper . I think I only paid around $50. Cheaper than performance nissan
at $65....

Personally I would get the slotted/dimpled rotors more for looks behind my 19" wheels, but if I get better brake performance in the process than great. I like the idea of a firmer pedal that the ss lines offer. Same goes with the hawk pads, id buy them more for the "dustless" reason than better braking but if I do get better braking than great again! I don't auto-x. I do some pretty aggressive driving on the street though......so any chance of better braking in the process of other brake related things id be happy!

just FYI...
You dont really get a better brake performance as far as distance till stopp... (60-0 times)... it may be sliiightly better...
where you will see differences in brake performance is on the track and the brakes are very hot... when you have a good brake package, you will experience less brake fade...

you don't need a brake upgrade for your z....unless your tracking every weekend then i could justify it....there are many other mods you can do that would be more beneficial. also, the only reason i would change out pads would be to eliminate the dust....but i don't mind that and they work just fine for the street.
