Exclamation Please post if you've installed Hawk HPS brake pads

i applied brake grease between the metal plate on the pad and the shim, and also on the outside of the shim, but i still get squeeking

i'm thinking that i might not have put enough, or is this normal... i've read that others also get squeeking from their HawkHPS pads, but i'm pretty sure i've also read members who claimed they get no squeeking after the brake grease was applied

my question is, did you use brake grease while installing your pads?

if so where did you put it?

do you get squeeking?

I only squeak at low speeds, like when approaching a stop light etc.

Me too, but that is getting on my nerves. I think I am going to change it out pretty soon.

You might also try putting grease around the outside of the 'ears' on each side of the pad's backing plate (the parts that slide into the metal fittings in the caliper.)

Hawks HPS - front only

Once in a blue moon it will squeek.

But (surprisingly) not very often.

I thought the break-in instructions were silly, but followed them anyway. Also, I installed them when the car was brand new (no existing wear on the rotors).

I have absolutely no noise at all from my Hawk HPS pads.

I had them installed in a shop since I have no mechanical skills at all. My mechanic sprayed the back of the pads with Disc Brake Quiet by Permatex and let it dry. Installation was done with the factory shims. Rotors did not need to be turned but YMMV. Performed the Hawk procedure for bedding the brakes. The bedding procedure is printed on the box for the Hawk HPS Brake Pads.

I've got them on all 4 corners. I get a very rare squeal in the front after they are very warm and only when coming to slow stop. I used Permatex anti-squeal on the back of the pad and the shims.

Yeah. Use Permatex. It helps. Then, go drive and mash the heck out of the brakes a few times to bed them in nicely. Or, do one Open Track event. They'll stop squealing, for sure!!!

I have ran HP Plus and HPS. Both are quiet after you heat 'um up and wear 'um down a little.

Mine make a tiny bit of noise every now and then still...

Give it some time.. I waited about 2 1/2 months before the squeaking stopped completely. Dont ask me how it just did. Correctly doing the bed in is a must.

I have Hawk pads on both front and the rear and I have absolutly NO squeaks. When I had my pads installed, my mechanic took out the factory metal plate on was between the shims. He said that Hawk pads already have a metal plate attached on the back of the pad. By adding the factory metal plate, there is more possiblity of making a squeak. On my previous Z, I had Hawk pads also in the front and the rear. That car sqeaked and it had factory metal plate between the shims.

I don't know if I am just lucky or maybe my mechanic was right. Like I said before, I have ABSOLUTLY NO SQUEAK.

I had the pads installed at 3K mi and I have 14.5K mi now.

Mine squeek a little at slow speed (approaching a red light for example).
I can deal with a small squeek better than all the brake dust I was getting from the OEM pads.

Mine squeaks a little and its random too. I didnt use stock shim but I notice the rotors are slightly worn out with outter edge sticking out 0.5mm so maybe my rotors need to be turned? Is the HPS pads larger than the stock pads?
