NACA brake ducts installed in my front bumper today. Still waiting on the 3" high temp hose to get here so I can get it routed, and am combing the interweb for backing plates that will work but I haven't found any yet. I am thinking I will modify whats left of the stock dust shields to work.

Feel free to hate on my unpainted ghetto front bumper, but I couldn't care less. I will never paint it. This is a track and autocross car, as you can see from the cone scuffs. Pretty cars are for the Hin crowd and people who care.

Post your thoughts/hate. I will update the thread with more pics once my hose gets here and is routed.

whats on your fender where it meets the front bumper?

 

It holds the bumper onto the fender in case he hits something while tracking it..i believe.

 

Half right. Its actually a quick release latch, so I can remove the front bumper just by undoing those two latches and removing 2 of the plastic clips under the hood. There are no screws holding it on under the fender like the OEM configuration.

Sometimes you need to fix **** fast at the track

i like the ducts though. They actually look ok with the bumper. I'm very into my brakes and that looks like a good mod. How much did that run you?

 

i was thinking of doing something along these lines as well with my central 20 bumper instead of putting fog lights i like the idea!

 

Around $30 for the ducts and a trip to the hardware store for the bolts. The high temp hose is more expensive; cost about $50 for 10 feet.

Totally doable. I have a C20 bumper as well, in my storage garage. You could easily attach and route hose to the brakes. I think the ducts on it are around 3" so standard brake hose would fit good.

 

Everything is functional and has a purpose. I love it!

Yes! I have been looking for backing plates that have a 3" round hub on them for attaching the brake hose directly to them, but nothing yet. So as of right now I plan to fab up something by modifying the factory dust shields.

Do you have temps of the brakes before you added these ducts? It would be some good info to see if it actually lowers the temps significantly.

I was looking into doing soem custom brake ducts for mine as well. looking good too. let us knowhow it all goes when you got it out and tested. also if you find some backing plates PM me please. I found some but none that are good to go for the Z.

OP I like it! paint the screws/rivets/or whatever they are black, and it'll be pretty and functional.

 

Lol, actually its sort of an "incomplete" idea hence the reason why I did not want to post it up publicly. I just linked Justin to a site I found that sells the spindle ducts that he needs to mount to the backing plate. It obviously will still take some fabrication to mount the ducts to the backing plate but thats not the hardest thing to do.

You could possibly check uucmotorwerks. They carry them for the E46. Might be able to make them work.
