I was reading in Consumer Reports Car Buyer's Guide 2003 about the Z. With every car it listed the Dealer Invoice, in other words, what the dealer paid for the car. It had it at a little over 30K for the track. I'm wondering if anyone has been about to negotiate a sale for closer to the dealer invoice? On the other hand, I test drove an Audi TT and they offered 2K below MSRP.

I paid MSRP. If anyone wants a black Enthusiast with kick plates & aero..... MSRP + all taxes, etc minus $100 (nothing big, but it is below MSRP). It is my order that I need to get rid of.

Other than this, I don't think many dealers will go below anytime soon.

Here in the Chicago area at Star Nissan, they were offering to give me a lower price and all I told them was that i was just looking at the 350Z not that I was really interested. I'm thinking when the time comes for me to buy it they might go under MSRP.

I live in Alberta, Canada and got a awesome deal on my Touring Z. First off I got $250 below MSRP and am paying no docs fees which most dealers charge close to $500 incuding the administration. So I saved $750 on my new Z that is being built and will get in the first or second week of Januaury.

That's not entirely correct. The dealer pays *invoice* at the time they want the car. That's up front. However, they do have a dealer holdback which varies with each manufacturer. Nissan gives 3% off the total invoice... so 3% of invoice is taken off the invoice price to cover the costs of advertising and storage fees for the cars. Generally this amount will cover 90 days on the lot. The dealer can move cars faster than that in more cases so they get a little extra. On the Z it's around 600-1000 depending on the model you want. So, if they car is sold within the first week for MSRP they are making 3000 + 700 on an Enthusiast model. It gives you some room to deal with the dealerships. They do not get any commission for the Dealer Holdback and will usually never sell AT invoice. I would say that the best deal you can get is 2-4% over invoice which gives them a 700-1000 profit and a commission for the salesman.

Those should go through the standard definitions, and give you a list of what the dealer holdback is for each brand. I think infiniti is 2% off total MSRP.
