General rule, add 10% to the amount you paid to cover your taxes and tags.

You used to be able to do that - CA changed the law about 6 or so years ago.

i just bought my 350z in Arizona and have had nothing but troubles trying to get the title transfered and all that for Ohio.

IMO, just buy it where you live and save yourself the trouble....trust me.

Ohio told me that I would have to pay the difference on the sales tax from the two states, but have yet to see a bill.

When you buy a car out-of-state, usually you have to get a smog check w/in 30 days of gettin' the car w/ DMV. You also have to pay an additional destination fee (not the one you have to pay when u buy any car), varies depending on how far the car is coming from. Tax wise, u pay the % you have your car titled (via local DMV). So, you better be getting one hell of a deal out-of-state to go thru all the trouble.

Default no problem

Sounds like I am in the minority. I bought my car out of state from the dealer in Las Vegas, NV. Didnt have any problems with taxes. I live in New Mexico. I think we have one of the lowest taxes for cars out of any state. 3.5%. Dealer told me not to pay tax in NV when I picked up the car because it was over 9% tax or something. Just had to cut a small check to the dmv in new mexico when I got home and register my car. BEN

NV tax is 5.5% not 9% lol

And have the dmv where you live apraise the car and you should get a lower vaule on the car to pay the tax. You pay tax on the vaule of the car not what you paid for the car.

Damn! All bad news...I'm contemplating buying a used Touring model from a guy in NC and bringing it back here to AZ. SO, I'll have to pay the difference of the two states sales tax percentages? So for example if AZ is 4% and NC is 5%, I'll only owe 1% tax?

On that note, anybody know what AZ's tax % is?

This sucks...f'ing government!

According to this site: http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/sales.html

AZ is 5.6
NC is 4.5

Subtract the 2 = 1.1% x Vehicle value (est. 24,500) =$269.00
Sound about right?

I bought mine from GA and I had to pay taxes to my county of residence in OH. 6,75% of purchase cost. About 2400$

Got that rolled into the loan, I should get my tags in a few weeks.

Dont know anything about that paying the difference thing. All I know is that when you buy the car, you will pay the tax when you registar your car in the state you live.

The way I understand it, if you don't pay the dealer, you pay the state DMV when you register the car.

I just called the AZ DMV, explained the situation, and she said if i'm buying from a private seller that NO sales tax is assessed - only if from a dealer. Ahh, sweet relief.

Yep, just found this out myself. I registered a used Z I bought in California and it was only $202 because they also gave me a credit for my previous registration.
