Default Nissan "Emloyee Pricing" is CRAP!

There are several dealers in my area that are advertising "Employee Pricing" to keep up w/ the domestic promotions. I inquired about it and was expecting a fixed price, something at invoice, just like the American cars. After a bunch of discussion, he finally offered me $1000 above invoice (but sticker for a 35th anniversary edition!). You've got to be kidding me! I'd eat my hat if he paid $1000 over invoice when he took his Nissan home. I called another so called "Employee Pricing" place, and they just told me $500 over invoice. That's better, but this whole advertising promotion is sooo misleading that it pisses me off.

What are your thoughts?

First, welcome to the forum! This whole "employee pricing" thing seems like a big gimmick to me. I'd just do my homework, find out what the dealer actually pays for a car, then add in reasonable profit and make an offer. I did this and ended up driving off with an '04 track model, brand new for $32,500. These promotion things all seem like 'smoke and mirrors, so to speak. Good luck!

Blame the Dealer...there's a thread on this.
The bad apple ruins it for all.

Employee pricing is just a gimmick. Things may be different down there, but up here, the "employee pricing" promotions are just in lieu of the cash backs and other incentives particular manufacturers offered in previous promotions. A good deal is a state of mind, and considering GM had a record month in June, the marketing seems to be working...

Default Employee Pricing is a very smart gimmick

Employee pricing is a very clever gimmick that is selling a lot of cars but I am very surprised that there have been no newspaper articles debunking it.

Example:

In April, before GM came out with that employee pricing gimmick, I bought a GMC Canyon SLE with about 5 options.
Then the pricing thing came out and I was a bit perturbed that I did not know or I would have waited.

So, I went out and found the IDENTICAL model with the same options and I mean identical all the way down to the color and such things as which of the 2 optional floor mats that are available for it.

I then asked the dealer for the employee discount price and it was ~ $350 MORE than what I had paid.

That was for a GMC.
Nissan, at least in my area, does not have that employee gimmick for the Z.

True employee pricing, the VPP, is actually really nice. I save about $5k with using it .

I must have gotten a really good deal on my car then, because my dealer actually told me that I paid less for the car than he could... ya, right! These guys will say anything to both sell the car and then try to make you feel good about buying it.

I get VPP. was looking into an FX, and it was invoice - 1.5% then +2.x% for marketing fees or something close to that. Just a RCH over invoice.

The secret about employee pricing is that they make the employees pay more than the customers. That's why most car salesmen go to other dealers and work them over. We know how to bust their ***** so you get the best deal that way. At your own dealership you get no respect whatsoever.

BTW There isn't alot of room negotiating on the price of most Nissan vehicles. I know exactly how much of a markup Nissan has on each vehicle. Some are barely over 1000 bucks.

You need to talk to Jeff, formerly of Evolution Autosports. He is selling for Infiniti in Tysons now. He might be able to make it worth your drive....

Check out Grubbs Infiniti in the Dallas area. They have great prices and service and offer many optional add-ons, much like Performance, that most dealers, especially Infiniti dealers, don't. In the past, at least, they have offered shipping anywhere in continental U.S. for a discounted price. Their GM, Danny Mayer, is DFW Infiniti on the G Fresh Alloy forum.

I'm not a shill for Grubbs; I bought my '03 G35 coupe from a local dealer; but as they say, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have.
