Default Nissan's Variable Valve Timing vs. VTEC

Is there any difference between Nissan's Variable Valve Timing and Honda's VTEC?? Or do they both function the same way??

I love the sound/feel of VTEC, sorta the poor mans turbo.
I was hoping the 350Z felt like Honda's with VTEC, but with more pull.

Anyone know??

There's a big difference between variable valve timing and variable lift (as in VTEC and Toyota's VVTL-i). Variable valve timing, in simplest terms, is when the valves open and close later during a combustion cycle. Variable lift, a.k.a. poor man's turbo (lol) is variably adjusting how far the valves open. More lift+ more fuel+ more air= more power. The Honda and Toyota systems are somewhat different in how they go about it, but the end result is the same. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm This explains the Honda system much better than I could.
