Default Got my $789 rebate check for buying the Z

In the mail today, I received a $789 check approximately 3 weeks after buying the Z. No strings attached. It was from Citibank Drivers Edge credit card program. You get 2% rebate for any purchase you make with the card toward your next new or used car. I have been using the card for anything I buy. I received the check 1 week after submitting a simple form and a copy of the sales contract.

Free money!

Note: I do not work for Citibank. Just though you guys might be interested in saving some money.

Yup, I did the same exact thing. I remember when it used to be 5%, then it dropped to 3% and now 2%. I use this card for everything and get a nice fat check every time I buy a car. Can't beat it!!

I took a look at the Citibank web site about this card. The one for college students may pay 2% (doesn't say on the web site) while the one for everyone else pays 1%.

How much can you charge against the card toward the purchase of a new car? Your whole credit limit? Or is the max amount up to the dealer?

My dealer limited me to $5K on the credit card, or I would have charged the whole thing, to get 3.9% (till paid) financing. I think the dealer has to pay a % to the credit card company, which is the reason for the limit.

Maximum rebate is $1500 over 3 years, $500/yr. Rebate expires after 3 years.

The check is paid by Citibank. The dealer pays nothing, they dont even know you are getting a rebate.

Originally, I got this card about 7 years ago and it gave 5% off for gas purchases and free road-side assistance. Then they got rid of that and offered 2% rebate instead. I think they must have lowered it to 1% rebate. If so, that sucks. With my $789 rebate, I have spent almost $40,000 with this credit card in the last 3 years. Most of it was by my wife I think. Doh!

My other card is a BofA Rewards card. It also offers 2% CASH rebate with a maximum $150/year.

I remember when credit cards had a yearly fee. Now they pay me.
