Talking Soon to be 350z owner. Looking for any helpful information.

Hi everyone. I'm purchasing my Z soon (next month). My dad and I, age 16, have been scoping out the car for a while now...I've been wanting one for about a year or so. I'm taking my license test soon...also in December. I've been reading the forums for a while and have come across many Z owners complaining about the problems they have with their Zs. Do you have any warnings, cautions, or tips for me before buying? I'm looking to buy a 2006 base model in Silverstone. I was unable to purchase a 2005 base Silverstone because the dealers around where I'm from no longer had base models available in Silverstone. I'd also like to ask about driving with Manual Transmission as this will be my first Manual car or car for that matter. I've heard about rev matching and etc for smooth driving...read some articles...But if you have any tips, please share I'm planning to learn Stick on another car...My brother has just received his first car in stick...a honda s2000, but I doubt he's experienced enough to give me beneficial advice. Thanks for your help

Treat your car like a weapon, not a toy.

wow, an s2000 and a 350z as first cars...

all I can say is try not to wrap them around tree's... and you might want to convince dad to at least get an enthusiast so you have some traction control...

as far as driving a manual transmission, just let out the clutch really slowly

good luck

With respect. You are not purchasing a car. You're not old enough to sign a contract. Your father is the buyer, and I’d be happy to answer his questions posted by him.

Yeesh, I figured this might happen when I first saw your post. I don't see what the big deal is myself. Personally I'm 23 and have worked my butt off for every penny I've got (which isn't all that many ), but if I would gladly trade all the "life lessons" I've learned in the meantime for the thousands of hours of free time I've given up, so I see no reason to hate on someone for it. At least he's putting forth the effort here to make a logical decision and isn't of that attitude that whenever something goes wrong daddy will just make it better.

As for the questions at hand, there haven't really been any large scale problems with the 2006's yet, most of the common problems you've likely heard of (tire feathering, transmission) are related to the 2003 and early 2004 models.

Seriously, think about putting a little bit more money down and get anything BUT a base. If you ever plan to resale, it would be very hard to get rid of the base. For a couple of thousand more, it is definately worth it to get a higher trim.

Get the Enthusiast model..........NOT the Base.

Your young & inexperienced; you need the TCS which is not on the Base.

The s2000 isnt my brother's first car...it's his first car with a manual transmission...I'll think about purchasing the enthusiast.

I don't have time to work. I've been occupied with schooling. The only reason my dad is buying me the car is because I've been doing well in school for a good couple of years. Other then that, thanks to everyone who's posted something helpful.
