Default What would you do

Lets say you were buying a new base model in 3 months (which I am) and you wanted a redline.

Lets say there were no 6M, black cloth interior, redline base models to be found in the U.S. and you were told you had to order one to get the redline base you want.

Lets say you could not wait the 3 months to order one and wanted your car now (mid May)!

Would you...

A. Pay $1,600 more and buy an Enthusiast model that you don't need or even want to get the color you want.

B. Buy a base model but go with your second color choice?

C. Throw a hissy fit in the showroom and demand that they sell you a Red Enthusiast for the same price as a base?

How long have you waited to purchase this car already and how long do you plan to realistically keep it?
If you've already waited awhile the 3 months isn't that long really. If you experience the same thing I did they cannot tell you when it is coming in anyway and you will stop asking them every week how it is going and just go on with your life. We'll start a support group for you
And if you are going to keep it long term make sure you get EXACTLY what you want - unless like the last thing you said, you can get an incredible deal you will still be satisfied with.
The second color thing may confuse you - I had no other color that I liked except for my 1st choice. Good luck!

what the hell is up with Z buyers finding out their number one car of choice is not found in the U.S.?? when i went to 3 different dealers in so.cal they said there are NO daytona blue 6 speed manual enthusiasts in the US. but then i checked the nissan.com inventory lists for each dealer within 50 miles of me, and low and behold i find the car that every dealer around me says doesnt exist. if i were you, i would look on nissanusa's inventory and SEARCH all dealers inventory within 50 miles from where you live for the car you want. trust me i was in the same situation as you and the dealers said it would probably take 2-3 months to get that car in. but i checked inventory and found my car the next day. i think the dealers inventory system is slower than the actual nissanusa inventory list. and plus ive seen quite a few 06 redline 6 speed base around socal. but good luck on your buying.

I've been wanting to buy a new car for about a year now and have decided (on and off) on a Z since last Spring, so if I can't get what I want, when I want, I will do what the other guy said and commit ritualistic suicide

By the time I buy in May, I will have waited about 17 months, so waiting another 3 ain't gonna work. I want my Z before my truck dies. I did a Vehix search and looked like there are a few right now scatered here and there.

Hopefully nobody will buy them all before I get mine.

The other thing is I'm still finding myself changing my mind on the damn color still The only reason I would opt to pay more for the Enthu is if I am dead set on red and no other clolr will do.

Get the Entusiast. It is a much better buy than Base & you get the color you want.

Why dont you go to the dealer a few months before you plan on taking delivery, and have them order it for you. That way, your exact car will be there in May. Actually, if you want it in May, GO NOW!! If your definitly settled on the Z, you can put down @ $1,000, and they will order you one. My dealer just gave me an estimate of 4-6 weeks for an ordered Z. So, it might not take a whole 3 months.

I would say wait, but I can't imagine how you wouldn't want the limited slip unless you were planning on doing it aftermarket...

I just checked my calendar, it says Feb. If you don't want to wait 3 months to get your car in mid May, I can sell you my calendar. You can pay shipping.

Like I previously stated, if you want to get a car in May, and your wanting a certain color with certain options, you should place your order now. Even if the car is on the lot, you can still order a similar one. I'm sure the dealer wouldnt have a problem doing this.

Actually I tried to order one back in October or November because initially I was planing on buying in Mid January (3 weeks ago) but there were a couple of things that put all of that on the back burner. Back then, I told the dealer I wanted to order one, so that it would be in by the time I planned to buy it in January. He asked if he had one now, would I buy it? I told him I wouldn't have the down payment till January. I wanted my car to be in stock or at least on it's way when I was going to buy it in January.

He was actually going to take my deposit and order it, until I told him I wasn't going to have the down payment until January. He was like well what if your truck dies and blah blah blah. First of all it's none of his business about those things but to make a long story short he didn't seem interested in taking my deposit and ordering my car after knowing I didn't have all the cash, which turned out to be for the best anyway.

I needed to take care of a couple other things first. January would have been pushing it too much anyway but May is a go for sure. Problem is that I'm in the same boat, won't have the cash till May. Only difference this time is that I will be buying for sure in May.

I'm sure something will work out. It's way too early to start worrying about whether or not they will have what I want 3 months from now anyway because I will probably change my mind about what color I want at least a dozen times a week anyway.

Was just curious if people would be willing to pay $1,600 more for a car that has options they don't care about (enthusiast) but is the color they wanted or wait 3 months or so and get the color and package they initially wanted or just settle for a different color.

By the time May rolls around, I will want my car so freakin bad, I probably won't even care what color it is, as long as it's not white, interlagos or black.

Your dealer is a jacka$$. I put down $250 to order my car. I had 3 choices for dealers within 1 hour of me. The one I contacted pressured me over the phone to take what he had. I went to talk to them anyway and he was a jerk in person too but that was the manager. When I got to sit down with a salesman he was nice and would do whatever I wanted. I used the 3 to get prices to get the dealer that was 2 miles from my home to get the price I want. I went in and said I am ready to order if you can beat this price today. They said OK and took a check for $250 and ordered it. I ordered the first week 05's were available so I waited 16 weeks. You may not experience such a long wait mid season of the 06's. It is difficult for them to pinpoint the delivery date becuase your car will not show up in the computer until it gets scheduled into the production queue. Once it has been assemled they can nail it down to within a week.
In my opinion if you are asking us if you should spend the money on features you don't want or need I think you have already answered your own question - if I read your plans right and understand what you wanted to do, find a good dealer now and order exactly what you want. You should not be charged a down payment, just a small holding fee to place the order which can be applied to your down payment when it comes in. You are not buying this car now, only agreeing on a price and ordering it. I'm pretty sure you can still walk away from it when it comes in too. It should be no different than the other cars they are expecting in for inventory. Some dealers will just take advantage of whatever they can. Get different results and try another dealer. If you are adventurous or are in a part of the country where the Z is a car that you can't get a deal on locally try getting help here on buying over the internet, etc. if you can't find a dealer you are satisfied with. The other 2 dealers I dealt with were extremely relaxed and were open to discussing reasonable prices.
