Default advice for a n00b buyer

I am giving up on my search for a Grand Touring and decided to go with Touring since I am in need of a vehicle.

Here's the best price I've found so far for a 2006 touring w/ these options:
side curtain airbags
kickplates
cargo mat/carpets
convenience package

Invoice according to intellichoice is $30,990. I talked the dealer down to $31,400, a bit shy less than 500 over invoice.

any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Default Msrp

Here's the numbers according to NADA:
Build Invoice MSRP
Base $30,011 $32,450
Options $895 $1,110
Destination $605 $605
Total $31,511 $34,165

So it looks like I'm below invoice according to NADA.
I'll try to get him down to 31k even.

He did offer me one on his lot for $30,400. Only difference is no side curtain airbags. I was tempted but figured a couple hundred bucks is probably worth the chance of saving my noggin if i ever get t boned.. god forbid.

I can't ask for that! He might say No! lol It's an out of state dealer so I would have to drive back to cali everytime if I did have the buying skills to pull that off.. worth a shot though

good luck either way, but he should make it an even 30k for no side airbags. i know they're a little more expensive than a few hundred.

This is not the time of the year to look for bargain basement prices. That begins when the dealer puts the first 2007 on the lot.

right, IMO the 2007 will be identical to the 2006 and theyre not going to release it until Oct earliest.

How much below invoice can you usually talk them down to in that 'bassment' period?

If I can get this right at invoice I would be content with the deal. Saving a couple more hundred would be sweet but I'm probably not going to wait.

thanks for the heads up

Still debating.. initially I was gonna drop 6 large but realized that if I was to put 0 down.. I would only pay $700 more within the 60 months in interest.. which is about $11 more a month in interest..

I know $700 is a good chunk of change but if you look at it in a span of 5 years... it doesnt look as bad

But yea.. still debating on what to down.. any advice? lol

Well im going to be honest with u. I work at a Honda dealership and Down payments are nothing more than commission for us (the salesman) cause the Closer will just take that money and make it dissapear in ur monthly payments bringing the monthly payments down very little. Keep ur 6k invest it and put 0 down. The salesman is gonna try his heart out for u to put a down payment. But I wouldnt. Hope this helps

Interesting, never looked at it that way. Looking at it from a mathematical perspective, the true reason for putting down is to lower the monthly and pay less interest in the long run.
Although you can always put your downpayment and invest it where the return is higher than your interest rate which technically makes the price for your purchase less.
I don't see the logic on why a dealer would get incentives on down payments.. I would've thought the opposite since they make more off you in the long run w/o a down.
Thanks for the heads up!
