Default '04 350z from dealer--what's fair?

Local dealer has a '04 350z performance model, silverstone w/ black interior, 25k miles. Car is perfect--no paint defects minus 2 small chips on front bumper that can be fixed via touch-up paint. Interior is flawless. In fact, seats look brand new. Dealer is asking $29,900. Dealer has to make money I know, but what do you guys think is fair for both parties?

TIA,

Ryan

Offer hime 23 as a one time offer - give him your phone number - stick with the price. There is always another one around the corner! If he asks how you are paying for it - tell him we will talk about that later. ( they often make more on financing - you are entitled to shop for financing if you want to. When I purchased my 1990 350 ZX - bought it in Feb - was the irridescent yelllow 2+2, brand new, but I saw it sitting on the lot for a month before I went near them ) It had a sticker price of 31,000 - loaded except for stick shift. I finally got them to settle for 25,500 - they asked how I was going to pay for it. I said cash! They were a bit unsettled - but I wrote the check and they said they would have it ready the next afternoon ( Guess they ran the check to the bank!! LOL ) I figure they may have broke even on the deal or made very little.
Cash is king! You could start at 22 and that would give you 1 grand to give more if you had to. They dont expect to sell at your first offer. Dont appear to eager to purchase it. Let them come to you after you leave having made your offer. Dont call them!!

Default Thanks guys!

Thanks for all the replies. 23k-24k is what I was thinking, but the dealer for some reason thinks they have something special. They told me last night they would take 26,300 but with that they would remove the Certified status

We left without even counter offering as we were kind of insulted.

Thanks again!

For that price you would be foolish not to get an 06 brand new. You should be able to get it for just a little over 31K. 29K is high for a 2.5 year old car. I checked on Edmonds, and they do list the 2004 Performance in Oustanding Condition with the Certified Used addon at $27.7K.

This is why if you are going to buy used, I don't recommend going through a dealer. You'll still take a huge depreciation hit when you drive it off the lot. As trade-in value on the same car they sell for 28K is only 21K! So you still take a 7,000 hit on a USED car for buying from a dealer and trading it in to a dealer.

Get the dealer to take 2K off a new one and you will be in much better shape.

I bought my 05 performance ultra yellow for 23k with only 9k on the car. My car is in great shape no accidents no panit flaws minus a few chips. I got it from a toyota dealer so they are asking way to much.

Good advise. Sellers want two things:

a. money
b. money now

Visit and make an offer.

Yes, that night made offer of $24k and told them that was as high as I could go. Never heard anything else from them.

However, it's all for the better. Kept looking around and found a private party deal that was really what I was looking for. Silverstone, '04, touring, only 12k miles, 2 yr warranty remaining, one owner and perfect condition. We worked out the deal and I should be able to pick up the car early next week.

You ever think some things just weren't meant to be? Well, the Z at the dealership was one of them I'll be much better off with the Z I found.

What did you offer to the private seller? Also what did the dealer say when you told him it was way above book value?
Private seller agreed to 25.5K. The dealer was willing to go as low as 26,300. After telling them the car was priced way to high imo, they said that was their price and they were sticking to it. As mentioned above, it worked out for the best--got a Touring edition, half the miles and less $.
