Wtf?
So I went to the Nissan dealership last Friday. I walked around the car lot and there was only one 350z roadster. Not a big deal. I just wanted to test drive one to see if I really liked the way it handled. I love the looks of the car but I wasn't going to jump to buy it just on looks alone. The woman who helped me said they needed a $500 non-refund deposit in order to take it for a test drive. WTF?? I dont get it? Did you guys have to do the same thing?
Yes there are probably alot of teens/people who dont have enough money to buy one that go to dealerships and waste time and money buy jumping in cars and taking them for a spin. But i really dont have $500 bucks to throw out the window to test drive the car to find out that I really dont like the way it handles
Any thoughts?

thats pretty stupid. but i can believe it.
ive been to dealerships that have been asses. on the other hand a few months back i went and test drove 4 porsche cayman at one dealer and they didnt even hesitate
so that goes to show you it just depends on the dealer.
you think it had something to do with age?

It was a way to get rid of you. No dealership would do that unless they do not believe you are going to buy the car. Since you're young, they probably figure you don't have the money. Why waste time on you when they can spend the time on someone who has the money to buy one? So they tell you that to see if you really do have the cash. If you had been smart enough to ask for the manager, and have your checkbook nearby, they would have dropped that crap.
On a side note, I recently drove three of those Versas. Not expensive cars, but they held one for me for three days without a deposit, just on my word that I might buy it. You wouldn't expect them to do that since they are flying off the lot right now.
