Default Warranty Question

First off, if these questions do not fit in this section feel free to move..

Now to the question.

I just recently bought an 03 track edition 350z. Love the car. I have been reading up more and more about the transmissions going (but also understand that you really only hear the stories of the ones that went, not the ones that didnt go **Obviously**)

MY situation. i bought the car with 39,000 miles. The dealer said there was no-warranty.

I am wondering however, if i have a 60,000 mile warranty on my powertrain (as many members have said every nissan or maybe just 350z has it) not quite sure.. couldnt make sense from all the search results.

Basically if say my 2nd or 5th gear (Seems to be popular ones to grind) starts to get bad before 60,000 miles, can i get a new tranny for free, EVEN THOUGH the dealer said my car had no warranty?

Sorry for the noob question, and thank you for your help!

Dave

5 years or 60k miles whichever occurs first from the ORIGINAL purchase date. Powertrain only.

yes, your tranny is covered till then.

^^thanks that is what i figured. So if my car was made april or 03.. i have till april of 08 to get a new one..

Why do you think the dealer said my car has no warranty.. when there is still a power train warranty on the car?

Sorry for the questions.. but THREE MORE

I bought the car used (of course) and there is no way the 5 year 60,000 mile power train warranty is for only the first owner and is waived after it sells (i am the 2nd owner)

second, i bought the car at a dealership 40 miles away.. there is a nissan dealership 1 mile from my house.. could they do the work if i need it?

Lastly, what justifies needing a new tranny to the dealership.. my 2nd and 5th are a little notchy and i did grind 5th once.. (downshifting from 6th) do i just tell them that and they will replace?

Thanks for all the help! I have been a long time member on bimmerforums.com and NASIOC.com and i really enjoy this place!

5/60 does transfer to the second owner. the 5 years started when the ORIGINAL owner purchased is. ie: purchased 5/03. then warranty by time is until 5/08. but that is only if you do not reach 60k miles first.

you can take your car to ANY NISSAN dealership. the warranty is covered nationwideby all Nissan dealers.

In order to get a warranty transmission first they will have to identify a problem. No matter what the problem is, if it cannot be duplicated, by the dealer, then you don't have a warranty issue. Secondly, any manufactuer is looking to save warranty money. if it is cheaper to rebuild the tranny then it is to replace, that is what Nissan will do. The rebuild cost would have to be 70% or more of replacement cost to get an entirely new tranny. Now with that in mind, most dealers will overprice a rebuild to save themselves the hassle of having to do it. Much easier to remove and replace then to rebuild.

Any drive train mod may be a problem:

Flywheel
Clutch
Final gear

Mods do not "void your warranty". The manufacturer/dealership can deny specific claims if they can PROVE that your mods caused the specific failure.

Probably because they felt it gave them a better opportunity to sell you an extended warranty.

sorry for bumping this thread, but I"m in simliar boat, except i'm not the 2nd owner. Is there a limit as of how many owner the warranty will transfer to?
According to the carfax, the vehicle was sold on 12/30/02, that means i have til 12/30/07 for the warranty to expire correct?
