Default Trying to sell my Z and buy another

I'm not sure if this is in the right place, but the situation is that right now I'm trying to sell my AT Z and purchase a MT, but the whole thing with paying sales tax twice is making it difficult. My current car is a stock 2003 enthusiast, auto w/ 42k miles on it. If I were trying to make a quick sale, how much should I sell it for?

Probably $19k or less to move it.

The place to sell is the marketplace and regional forum. Not sure what you mean by paying taxes twice.

I think he means that he had to pay sales tax when he bought his car, and then will have to pay sales tax again when he buys his other car... I dunno - thats just the way it works. Unless you live in a state without sales tax

I've read about some people getting good prices on their Z's by selling them to Carmax, since our cars are probably easy for them to sell. They apparently give blue book and sometimes more, but which blue book price are people talking about? Is it the trade-in value, or private party price? Because I've seen people reporting both. If it is private party price, I'm all for this...but I'm guessing it's trade in price because that's too good to be true.

I would assume that they would be buying them at trade-in value. Otherwise, they can buy 03 touring w/nav. right now. I would sell it to them in a heartbeat.

I tried selling my 2003 touring w/ 42k miles to carmax, and they only offered me $14k!!! He even told me how nice it was. But, since I did have it lowered by 1/2" w/ the hotchkis springs, he said they couldn't take cars that had their suspension changed in anyways. I even asked how much would you give me if I put the OEM springs back in, and he said no change in offer. My car was excellent in the interior, and ext had minor scratches. The best offer I received was $16750 at a car dealership. They all told me the 350Z's (at least the 03's) will not sell too well.

Oh, at carmax, they did have 2 03 models w/ only 25k miles on them (mine had 42k miles w/ 19" rims and looked much better) and they were selling them for $25k. I can't believe those guys. I'll never go back there again.

Wow, UCmyZ, those are some pretty crappy offers. I wouldve been pissed if anyone ever tryed to insult me with $14k. I wouldve brought up the Z's they had on their lot too, but Im sure by that point you were just fed up. Funny too, I have my car lowered on hotchkis springs, and honestly no dealer has ever noticed, or atleast said anything to me about them.

Try selling in your local paper. Autotrader maybe.

When I traded my car in MD (car was registered in FL) I only paid 1500 for tax for the new Z I decided to transfer my plates over.

if you can find a dealership that would do a straight trade with you there would be no sales tax....i did that with my z and got a killer deal...but i traded in a different car.

also, i was told that the first two weeks of january or something like that...u dont have to pay property tax on it...i just heard one of my friends say this...but we both arent 100% sure...sounds a lil weird to me...so i doubt its true.

Don't even bother with them. They're like any other used car dealers, out to make money. I tried it with them and they were low balling me. I finally sold it to a private buyer. I would've lost another 4G if I went with them.
Just be patient, somebody will buy it. You are already losing money from taxes, why lose more on the sale.

You'll pay taxes only on the difference in price between your Z and the new one, since you already paid the taxes for your current Z.
