How much should I offer on this car?
look up kelly blue book or carmax
then low ball it slightly to make the process of negotiating a bit longer. it feels knowing that you got a good deal, so a bit of negotiating can't hurt.

Well, the car was already being offered at around 2500-3000 under the kbb private party value...the price is right around the tradein at kbb, nada, edmunds...so it's already a decent deal that I'm considering. I wanted to see if I could get another 1000 off, so I was thinking of offering 1500 under their asking price to give room for me to go up some. I just want to make sure that wouldn't be so lowball that the seller would be insulted.

Well, I actually ended up getting a very good price because the seller had gotten a good deal before and wanted to pass it on...really nice guy, I didn't even really have to haggle to get a good deal.
I'm getting a 2005 with the touring package and 30k miles for just over $20,000. It also has chrome wheels. I think that's about as good as I could hope to find on a clean car with no problems, so I gladly took it.
