Default looking to upgrade to an 07

I went to the dealership after work yesterday and was able to test drive an 07 touring model with nav. Its was definately a different driving experience coming from an 03 with a heavier clutch. The dealership was able to find me an 07 carbon silver enthusiast trim with mud guards, carpets, and kick plates asking 31,785 OTD. This price to me is a bit high seeing as the msrp is 29,600 and the add ons are barely worth much. How much lower do you think I could haggle them down to closer to 30k or maybe under that? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

I got my 07 TOURING with the aero pkg AND side curtain airbags for a little over 32k, so you definitely need to go LOWER!

Did you do much to haggle with them or were they offering bargains/incentives? I wouldnt mind the leather heated seats but i really dont want to pay more than 30k so I can live with an enthusiast trim for now.

I went to edmunds.com and spec'd out the car and the trim pkg. and they show you the actual invoice price from the factory. Heck, even THAT amount usually is 2% above what the dealership REALLY pays.

edmounds doesnt always get it right.. little education for all you out there.. ive sold cars for 7 years and trust me.. ive lost many a deal to "over educated" customers.. because they firmly belived there was all that money left on the table when in reality i was all in.. find out what percentage is in the car and negotiate a fair compremise.. remeber this.. if your buying new car then your no doubt going to be a service customer there.. you want a freind at a dealership not some one who remembers you coz you pissed and moaned over a couple hundred dollers.. a good salesmen can do things for you that you'd never get with out him/her.. this isnt to say you cant get a deal (or even a great deal) but just remember this.. some times it doesnt pay to be Tooooo cheap.. just my Good luck with the new car..

So do you guys think that asking for about 30k OTD is too much of a price drop from 31,785? Otherwise what do you think would be a fair compromise. I have a borla exhaust on mine currently and was thinking i'd try and get them to move it over to the 07 as part of the deal.

I agree with fast kiwi. I knew the "out the door" price that my dealer and I agreed upon was fair for both of us. I knew he was making some money off of the deal (that's their livelihood), but I also knew that I was getting a good deal. I certainly don't want any bad feelings when I give him a call to ask questions or when I need to bring my car in for anything.

I agree to a point fast kiwi. Edmunds is usually pretty close. I usually figure if I get invoice or close to invoice I am doing OK. The dealer still makes the whole back (2-3%). I don't be grudge him that. Z cars really don't have a huge markup around $2800 to $3000. As far as salesmen being helpful most aren't even working at the same place 1 year later....There are exceptions however.

Too true about salesmen not always sticking around....
But if you should come accross a very helpfull salesmen, stick to em. coz he'll bend over backwards to help.. this after all is a referal bussiness. in the case of a car having hold back then yes, invoice is not horrible to hold out for.. infact it would be a fair deal if the car is in good demand.. if its a sh*t box that everybody has and they cant move it then ask for it all.. they'll give it to you for sure.

MSRP is about 29,600. Invoice should be around ~28,300 with installed options based off my edmunds research. So does anyone think I can get it for 30k OTD or is the deal they offered me "good enough"?

Invoice or close to invoice should be attainable. Not sure about taxes in Maryland etc. and what that would add to your bottom line.

taxes are 5% which is about 1500. So you really think that I should be able to get a price closer to invoice? They are trying to sell me the car for about 29,985 before TTT.

And the MSPR is $29,600? There must be something that I am missing here.

Yeah i dont know why they are trying to sell it above MSRP but i didnt haggle with them at all just to see what they would give me. Obviously they wanna get all my money so I just got a pre approved bank check to wave in their faces as part of a bargaining chip. I'd like to haggle the price close to invoice since the added options dont really cost much more. The salesmen just called and said the model they pulled me has nismo wheels on it. I've been trying to find out what they look like but all I get is the Nismo Z car pics online. He sent me a link to a set of nismo wheels LMGT4s. Were those models an optional upgrade in 07??

NISMO wheels complicate the bargain because they are a dealer add on. Did you ask for NISMO wheels? No? Then don’t pay for them.

Yeah I did not ask for the NISMO wheels. They are nice looking rims but I dont know if I want to factor them into my loan as well. Instead of getting the stock 07 wheels at a cheaper price. I think the wheels alone are about 2400. I dont know what type of "deal" they would give me if they factored the rims in but i'm thinking I should probably ask them to pull in the model that has stock wheels and aim for 30k ish
