Buying your Z - Impulse or Researched?
I hate to say that me and the wife bought our Z on impulse. I just sold my GP that morning so I kinda needed a car. I was out actaully shopping for Lex GS300's and BWM 328-330CIs but the 2 Lex's I drove were crap
After being dissappointed with the Lexus rides and stopping at other dealerships including the Nissan dealer saying "look at that nice black Z"...we kept on our way until finally we were fed up (i know it was only a few hours of car searching) and I mentioned "hon...forget the Lex..lets just get that Z!!!"...lol...she replied "lets see how much"...and the rest is history.
So did you research your Z or buy it out of impulse...or in my case, i just really needed a car before Monday.
I wonder if I still would have bought if I researched now that I read of the problems with the Z like the tranny and stuff...i probably still would have.

Both!
I was shopping for a car, but had no urgent need. Looked at TTs, and then considered a GTI VR6.
I saw an add for the Z, and fell in love. I resisted going to the dealer because I knew I would buy it and I was waiting for some $$$ coming in in January. So in the meantime I researched on the web, options, models, etc. Decided I wanted a touring with the 6MT, aero pkg. No color preference, maybe blue or black.
On Jan 19th I went to visit my brother in Orlando. After breakfast, we are driving by dealers and there is the Nissan. Lets stop and I show you the Z I like. We did. I bought. They had 2 redlines, touring, 6MT with aero. One with tan leather, one with dark leather. I took the dark leather, drove it home.
So it was a researched impulse I guess...

I had a severe case of the "wants" from the get-go when I saw the car. I did reseach in the sense of understanding differences between models, "right" price, color, & a test drive. Plus I read some reviews.
I did make the assumption that because it was a Japanese car the quality & reliability would be there. Contrary to the experience of some others, the quality & reliability of my Brick has lived up to expectations.

Noel...i bought my Z at Conicelli Nissan in Conshohawken...about an hour and 20 mins from my home in Stroudsburg. The local Nissan dealer has a red touring with aero package but red doesn't do it for me for some reason on cars.
Where you get yours?

I impulsively researched the Z.
The same impulse still makes me surf this site 5 times a day.
Even though I had looked and looked and looked for the right car, I bought mine on impulse. I wasn't going to buy when I went to the dealership.

Same deal here, a little of both. I researched the car, and wanted it very bad, however, I had no need for a car, my old one was perfectly fine and not quite paid off. I went to the dealership, threw out a number never expecting to get it, and I did. Had to spend the rest of the day running between my banks to get my finances straight, because I was not prepared to by the car just yet. Drove home with my DB Touring.

Well, I am the opposite of most that posted here. I saw the sketches at Nissan desgn center. I kept my mouth shut, watched the prototype as it got shown and just waited. Then, waited more as they went on sale. Read a lot of posts pro/con. I finally got mine in Jan 2003. I love the Z but I am far from an impulse buyer.

I've always wanted a sports car, and prefer the hardtop over a vert.
I had been toying with the idea of getting an S2000, but didn't want the convertible. When I heard that Nissan was brining back the Z I couldn't wait to see what it was going to be like.
The initial prototype was dissapointing, but the second two were awsome. I decided that I'd take my chances with a first year vehicle, just so I could get one right away (kinda).
I preordered Feb 2, 2002 and took delivery Sept 18, 2002.
I now have 17,400 awsome miles.
Only problems have been the typical first year stuff:
Grease on windows
Rattles
Play in drivers seat
No tranny probs (I think mine's right on the edge, because it's pretty stiff when cold), no tire probs, nothing serious at all.
I love the car!
So, mine was researched, but I bought it without knowing what it was going to be like. I just had faith in Nissan.

Impulse buy.
I took my Mitsubishi in for a service and saw the Z for the first time. Fell in love with the car. Was refused a test drive at the dealer that day, so I went to another dealer the following day to test. Then I had to sell it to the other half that night and ended up buying it the following day. No regrets whatsoever.

I had been checking it out for a while doing reseach, went up to just look at the dam thing. The next thing I know I'm driving off the lot with it. I get it home and the old lady is like what the hell is that, " what are you talking aobut " I said, " Oh that, that's my new car ". She flipped out, so what happened I had to get her a friggin VW GTI.......lol
