Default Evo to Z??

Edit: Looking for 20-23k range 350/g35, please read before posting

I have an 06 Evo MR with many many mods (550hp or so). While I love the car there are things that make me want to change. First being that I do not feel the need to race everyone who pulls up next to me. It gets annoying. Furthermore I am saving up for various other things (renovating my house ect). While I havent put the car up for sale yet, I think I will have a hard time selling it. It looks stock, completely stock from the outside, but I still feel that I will get mostly test-drive offers and no buyers. Where is a good outlet to sell such a car?

Finally I am thinking about slipping into a Z and lowering my payments by half!! What is the Z to have? What year? What particular trim to look for (is desired?). The Evolutionm.net has a thread specifically for this, couldnt find one here though about the Z.

So hopefully I will be scrapping the evo and getting into a nice Z that I can TT. (Leads me to insurance cost, how much does the average 25yr old pay for the z? The evo is outrageous).

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, look forward to being on the forums.!

You got it twisted, evo is cheaper to mod than a TT'd z. Trust me I know, I have a ST Z. Used Evo is also cheap now a days. Evo is one of the highest insurance rate compare to a Z so in that case you will save a few $ on insurance. If you're looking for a year to get....Base trim (lighter) year 06+ HR motor.

I dont really have it twisted. I should mention that my evo is in perfect condition, not a single flaw on her and sitting at 4500 miles. Show me another low-mileage evo9 for sale? I was actually looking to be paying in the 20k range for a Z, so nothing new. Just something new to drive/keep my intrest. I have a 94 3kGT VR4 as my hobby car. The evo was my regular driver but I also have a bmw that I drive daily and really put the miles on. BMW is paid, 3kgt is paid, evo I purchased last year with 0 down. I might have some negative equity in the car as well if I hand it over to a dealer. So I would like to ditch the evo and roll into a Z for about 23k. If I sold the evo to a private buyer I could get what I owe easily, however I would require blank-check in hand with letter of amount prior to a test-drive, which may be too much to ask. So my question to further clarify..

What is a good year in the 23k or lower range? (forget about tt'ing for now)
Also anyone want a like-new evo?, pics on request.

Thanks

07 base models can be had on the low 20K range. You want the HR motor avoid the Rev-up.

First forum tip is to watch out for the search police. They're everywhere

Carfi mentioned getting one with the HR engine. The HR came out in 07 in th e Z, so if you are looking for used, that might not fit into your price-range.

Some of the 06 z's with the manual tranny have really bad oil consumption issues so look out for that. Something about nissan trying to reach that marketing-magic 300HP number for 06 (from previous 287HP number) and a 7k rpm redline (up from 6500 RPM). And in doing so, they sacraficed some low-end and caused an oil consumtion issue. SO even though the 06 is claimed to have more power that previous years, it really isn't any faster. THere are good 06's out there. My wife's 06 does not burn a drop of oil. My old 05 burned a quart in 2k miles!!! I got rid of my 06 and got an 07 and it's all good now. the 06 6MT 300-HP engine is also called the Rev-up model because the RPMs were bumped up to 7k.

Check out the motorsport section under 1/4 mile times and look for stock cars and the model year.

Some older models are plagued with tire feathering and other issues.

If you can afford an 07, that would be my suggestion. It is advertised at having 6 more HP, but that;s only because in 06 and previous years, Nissan cheated and used their own HP-rating method. In 07, they were required to use SAE standards for rating HP so actually, the 306 HP (07+) Z's actually have about 30 more HP up top than the 06!

Let us know about the price range you are looking at and we can help you more.

It'd be tough for me to give up a 550HP EVO MR though. As much as I like the Z. The Z is still a blast to drive though. I like the looks more than an EVO, but that's subjective. I really love the ergonomics of the cockpit. Everything is where it should be.

Also note the differences in the 06 interior styling queues and exterior styling. 06 was the first year of styling changes. I prefer the interior of the 06+ The door trim is different and the HVAC controls look better (to me). Also, the 06+ has larger and brighter bi-xenon headlights, the older Z's had smaller Xenon low-beams and halogen high-beams. I think some of the first Z's have no Xenon at all. The 06+ also have LED tail/brake-lights. Headlights and tail-lights are interchangeable between all model years (I think). I would highly suggest getting LED tail-lights if you buy a Z without them. They are MUCH brighter. I see a LOT or rear-ended Z's. IMO, the old brake lights are not very visible at all. I'd be afraid to drive with them.

Good luck...

Thanks Hiz-n-herz, that was some good information! I understand how to search the forums, and I know some people are search ****'s. I wanted advice for my particular situation. Not just the simple "What z do I get?".

I did some looking last night at Carmax, I know some people have issues with them but I know the local sales/mechs at my local dealer. I do Compression check, oil analysis, ect. ect. before buying a car, and they do not mind me taking a really good look at it on their lifts, which is nice.

Basically anything within 500mi of 32256 is fair game, so there are alot to pick from. Let me get on my other computer, and I'll show you what I was looking at, have the links saved there. Looking for under 23k, otherwise I mine as well keep the evo.

Thanks, I apologise if I asked already answered questions. I will refrain from asking about model specifics ect..

I should say, I used to have an 06 nismo frontier that was PLAGUED with tire-pressure warning sensor errors, is this a problem on the Z? (Just kidding, I'll search that answer).

Okay, here are the ones I am eyeballing. With link and little comment, tell me what you think. I found these searching for a Manual Transmission... I noticed some are Coupes and some are Hatchbacks, I assume these are the same. Im not sure about the looks of the Convertibles, but I will entertain my options, who knows, mabye one will grow on me. Also I am open to infinity's as well.

http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/...spx?id=4961389
06 - silver - base? - 21,599 - 43k miles - Nice condition
Looks like my best bang/buck factor, but the others have charm.

http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/...spx?id=4867884
04 - white - touring - 19998 - 34k miles - Nice condition (sweet interior)
I am a sucker for white leather + 34k miles and the best price.

http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/...spx?id=4931691
04 - silver - touring - 21,599 - 27k miles - no picture!
No picture yet, but because of Carmax I am sure it is in good shape.
Awesome miles, mabye white leather? but seems overpriced.

http://www.carmax.com/dyn/factsheet/...spx?id=4858090
04 - Black - G35base? - 21,998 - 44k miles - Nice condition
The only G I have found w/ 6speed that I like.

Also know a guy selling a 05 G35 w/ vortec s/c and front big brakes w/ coilovers and 34k miles for 23,000. But has an overkill clutch that chatters some (typical to any upgraded clutch). Also some rock chips on the top of the hood that are pretty noticable and I would need to repair. Looks like a dumptruck of gravel was ahead of him on the highway. I trust him, but not sure about the vortec on stock internals ect.. do not want to buy into someone elses problem.

Thanks for entertaining my questions!

While I do appreciate your opinion, and would like an 07+, I simply dont think it will be within a reasonable price-range. I am downgrading a car and only want to pay 23k as the absolute max, but would love to pay ~20k. Ill update the original post to make it clear. If the rev-up is that bad, should I be looking for an 05 and lower?

Why is it not for me?

I am going to head to the dealerships today and testdrive to my hearts content. I am not looking for a racecar, I have a 3k that competes in local drag w/ ST gt45r. I am not looking for a daily driver, I have a comfy sedan for that. I am looking for something sporty but comfortable, easy on the eyes to take when I go out, with a lesser payment than the evo. Sounds like Z/G terratory to me.

I would say just sell the Evo and put the money into the house or in savings. You already have a racer and a daily; I know you said they are paid off, but why burden yourself with another car payment when you can sit back and save that cash? Our priorities may not be similar, but if I had 2 cars paid off, I wouldn't get myself into another payment.

Just my .02 cents. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think you can find a better deal online for an 07. Search cars.com and autotrader, carmax is always more expensive than other dealerships. Ive found multiple 07s with less than 20k miles for 23-24,000. Go with an 07 though.
