Default Any regrets about buying base?

After months of online reading/research on these forums, here goes my first post.

A co-worker/friend is selling his Black 2006 MT and I told him I am very interested since he said he would sell it to me for only 20k (It's a base model with 14k miles). I really had my eyes on atleast a touring model though, I am thinking that if I am paying 20k or more for a car, better get the trim I am after. But this deal seems very good and I know he has taken very good care of the car, its prestine. My question is, does anyone regret getting a base model instead of a higher trim?

I wouldn't touch the 06 will all the Oil consumption problems.

I would seriously consider an 07 touring and add Stoptechs.

07s have the stronger HR engine with no known issues.

Don't get it, go with an entusiast at least. I hate my base. No cruise control or limited slip. Just keep an eye out for an enthusiast or something. Just my

I have an enthusiast, and sometimes I think I might have been better off with a base. I have done extensive mods to my Z, and with the base you don't pay for things you wind up replacing when you mod.

I'm in the market for a Z, and I would actually prefer a base model. My current car has a cruise control and all that, but I've never used it - even on long road trips. Unless you plan on using the extras I feel it's not worth it.

Don't buy it for the above reasons and also, if he's a friend/co-worker, if anything goes wrong, it could spell disaster if something acts up.

I agreed with kaizen. Don't buy cars from friends/family. When that car acts up, it'll strain your relationship. Seriously...

Otherwise, shoot for the 07+ models if you can. Better interior and more power.

Base version is fine. The only thing that irks me was that Base model (2003 at least) did not have passenger sun visor mirror, which is a major bummer when you have a chick in the car :P

I just bought an 04 base. I plan on adding a LSD to it; otherwise, I am very satisfied with it. I never use cruise control, would prefer not to have haeted/power/leather seats, etc. Like others said, If you plan on modding your Z, just get base.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am still deciding but leaning towards picking up the car, seeing as how I am planning on buying a house next year. Want to make sure I dont go over on a car and have trouble with the down payment and mortgage on the house further down the road. And yes I plan to do some basic bolt ons mods, basically its going to be a daily driver and spirited weekend driving in the local canyons.
As far as buying from a co-worker/friend, thats not an issue, I know when I sign the paper its my car/problem from then on, and I have known him since he has had the car, he rarely even drives the thing.

I have a base, I added an lsd and a 3.9fd. No regrets. I've never used cruise control on any car even the ones that had it, and so far I haven't missed TC.
