Default Negotiating prices on a 2008 base or enthusiast?

Hey guys I'm Drew and this is my first post here. I've learned a lot about these cars and you guys have been a priceless resource in my decision to (hopefully) pick up a 350z. The knowledge here is overwhelming.

I'm currently mostly looking at used '05's and '07's as I know about the '03 and '04 model year having early production and tire feathering problems. I'm also steering clear of the '06's because of the oil consumption problem, I know it doesn't effect most of them but it's something I'd like to avoid all together. I'm coming from a 2001 audi a4 1.8t that has been a maintenance nightmare. However looking at the models in that price range in some cases (with negotiation on a new model considered) it's only a few thousand dollar jump to go new.

Anyways the models I'm interested in are the enthusiast and base (but really mostly enthusiast). I'm in Connecticut (anyone have experience with dealerships in that area?) and was wondering what price to try and negotiate for? I heard 92% of MSRP was a good ballpark figure but I'm wondering if this is actually reflected in your guys' experience?

I'm sorry to start another thread and trust me, I used the search function, but nothing came up that would answer all my questions and I wanted to have my 1st post and introduce myself!

Thanks in advance guys!

-Drew

Go with the enthusiast or up. I don't know about you but i would never pay msrp for a car.

Yeah I'm really only considering enthusiast unless there is a base at some absolute steal price. I really want the cruise control and limited slip diff.

EDIT: Yes 92 percent of MSRP is a reasonable offer. You could get more complicated and do invoice plus pricing.
I recommend that you be firm with your offer. Let the seller know that you want to buy now at your price.

For used cars, MSRP does not mean a thing. I'd look at Kelly Blue Book. You might also check the Marketplace section of this site to see what people are selling for.

Thanks for the replies guys! I think I've got enough to go with. Just out of curiosity if anyone recently purchased an '08 of any trim do you mind telling me what you got it for? That way I can see what kind of discounts you guys are getting in the real world. (Also please include any special options so I know)

Thanks guys!!!

EDIT- Also being kind of close to the end of the model year do you think that's a negotiating point?

Being as it's close to the end of the model RUN, I would say: "sure, use it", but even if you didn't, you would still get a good deal on a new Z.

Well no worries guys I purchased an '08 6MT enthusiast tonight for a price I'm happy with. Pick it up on Thursday... Wednesday is going to be a looooong day.

Thanks for all the help! Can't wait to be a more permanent member of these forums.

haha I agree, I'm really trying to not get my hopes up just yet because I've had things fall through at the last minute before. I'm staying cautiously optimistic.

However keep your eyes peeled hopefully you'll see me posting pics in the introductions forum. ;-)

It's only mid day on Wednesday. You got a long time to go before you pick up the car. Sorry, had to rub it in. But trust me, it'll be well worth the wait. Congrats.

The day I bought my ride I was at the dealership at 10am. I spent a couple hours checking out the car and talking business with the salesman. After I signed an intent to buy, I couldn't finish the paperwork to drive her off the lot because I had other appointments I had to keep. I had to go back at 9pm to finish the deal. I kinda wish I could have drove her to the appointments. It was one of the longest 11 hour stints of my life.

I know what you're going through. Just stay strong.

That's rough. At least you had something to keep you busy. I have this week off so I have nothing to do but... a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-e. I've been reading up on as much as possible to keep me busy.

19 hours...

Snapped some photos but I'm too lazy to go get my camera so check back tomorrow in the new owner's forum. :-)

EDIT- Just wanted to say thanks for the help guys and for getting me through the tough times (the wait...)
