Default New to the Z

Hi guys my name is chris, I have just come off a lemon law with a 2007 wrangler and have been in the car hunt for about 2 months. My rules were, fun to drive, 25+mpg highway, can fit my hockey bag, and a standard.

I started by looking at all new cars, lemon saved me once so I was scared off on used. I wanted to keep the price sub 25k so I test drove the civic si, GTI, WRX, and mini cooper s (just outside the price range). I went to my local nissan dealer looking for a altima coupe and fell in love with Copper 350z touring edition 6 speed. The car is an 03 but has 560 miles... Yes only 560 miles. All the original tags are still in the car on the glove box, the floor mats are still wrapped in plastic whole nine yards. The car is freaking new, but its 5 years old. They have it listed at 23k but moved the price down to 22k while I was talking to them. Should I go lower on it? The low miles are really throwing me off with what to offer. Part of me wants to say extend the warranty out all the way and walk away with it for 22k.

The car was not a demo, but was a one owner car who was a collector, according to the sales manager he had thought the car would become a limited run and values of the car would drop a bit at first and then hold if nissan stopped production after a year or two. I know I need to run a car fax but anything else I should do?

560 miles is exceptional, but not certain what premium this adds to the car. Keep in mind that this is not a classic 240Z or Corvette with 560 miles.

If there is something particular about the 2003 that appeals to you go for it.

What model?

See this thread for clues on models:

$22K is high for an 03 but if dealer will provide some warranty maybe worth it. I'd check eBay to see what 03s are going for. With that info in hand, I'd go negociate. My guess is you will end up at $20K.

The color is called Lemans Sunset

It's an 03 touring. Here is a link to it, http://www.middletownnissan.com/spec...AZ34E33T010531

Sorry for calling it the wrong color, but the dealer is too. KBB is saying $21,225 for retail value so I think I will talk them into $22,000 with an extended warranty. Off hand does any one know what Nissan offers on used car warranties? If not I will do some more research tonight. I have a hold on the car right now so it is mine but its no biggie to get that back if needed.

The 03s had several issues in the first year. Main one was tire feathering where tires would wear out prematurly. Most were fixed by new/better tires & an alignment. Another was grind going into one of the gears (I don't recall which one). The gear grind was far less frequent than feathering. Rest, such as grease on windows from motors, were minor.

I would be more enthusiastic about a 2003 Track. That given offer $21,725. And yes you can buy a warranty on any car but one that is 5 years old will be expensive.

I don't really want a track, I do a lot of driving. About 20,000 miles a year and I want it to be fun when I want at auto-x but still remain sane on the street for daily use so the touring I'd think would fit the bill the best. I am going to call on Monday to find more info on their warranty policy and make an official offer.

The thing bugging me know is I just found it listed on ebay, although I put the deposit on it yesterday at 3:30 so maybe the internet sales guy wasn't their to take it down.

Does any one have a car fax they could use for me? This is the only used car I plan on looking at and don't feel like burning the $25 unless I have to.

I ran the car fax, worked on the price and took it for another test drive yesterday. I will be picking it up on Wednesday
