Default Upgrading

Ok fellas, here is my scenario.

In March 2008 I bought a 2003 Enthusiast w/ 59k on it. So far I've only put on 4k miles. The car has been good so far, however It may have some issues. I noticed the axle clicking issue, the headlights have condensation in them and 6th gear is now grinding. When I bought the car I wasn't educated on what to look for, and thats my fault. My current car was dying, and it was kind of a quick purchase, also my fault.

The only reason I'm consdiering ditching it is because I can see issues appearing, and an unexpected promotion at work came where I can afford a newer vehicle.

Now, I still owe 14,000 on this current Z. I did see a 2005 Grand Touring for sale for 19,990 w/ 25k miles on. Orange leather, stick, great condition.

Now seeing that I owe so much on my current Z, and the Grand Touring is only 5k more, what is the best case scenerio on working out a deal with them?

so you owe 14 on a car that will probably trade in for nearly that much.. and you are making more money and can get a higher level trim with way less miles..

ah hell, shop around, you have plenty of time. I would probably want to unload it in your scenario as well, just make sure you have a trusted mechanic inspect this one

Definitely dude. I messed up in March. I was in a hurry, and I didn't educate myself. I've been on the Forum since then and I know all the areas to check. I also have a friend who is a mechanic now that will help me out.

I might go down Sunday and have a look and see what kind of numbers they can conjure up for me. I'd rather unload the car before the problems get bad.

I dont really see a point in upgrading from an 03 to an 05.. just go straight for the HR.

Exactly. I wouldn't mind a HR Enthusiasts, but I'd like the have the GT or Track. Basically, its the color/trim I want. Low miles, great price. Clean CarFax. Granted I'm not definitely getting this particular car, but i want to see what the numbers look like so I can be prepared at different dealers if need be.

I just wanna see if I'm wasting my time trying to trade in my Z that I still owe a fair amount on for a car that is only 5-6k more than my trade in value.

that would mean he would want an 07 though.. that is not going to be in that same price range! the 06's have a tendancy to burn oil don't they?

I've heard this too. A car is a car, and it will have problems. I think this GT is a good price, granted I need to see it in person. If they can get me doin payments of 450/month or so I'll most likely do it.

Not sure how thrilled they will be to accept a Z for a Z trade in, haha

That was the initial idea, but if you look at my OP I stated that my current Z is starting to show signs of problems, and I'd like to get rid of if before they become bad. Otherwise I wouldn't even be looking, I love my car. I would just like to get rid of it before I get stuck with the bills for fixing the problems.

If you aren't upside down on your loan, no reason not to upgrade as long as you don't mind the hassle. Going for more luxury/reliability, a 2005 GT would be great. For performance, a 2007 enthusiast.

Update guys, I went to check out that 05 GT, and it was very nice. Only problem was when I drove it I couldnt justify going through the hassle for only upgrading to an 05. In the end, it comes down to performance, and I decided I'm gonna wait for the 370Z to come out, and try to get a steal on a 07 or 08 HR somewhere. I'll keep you posted!
