I WANT A Z!! My mistake will COST ME!!
Hey guys, been browsing through these forums for a long time now. Summer i was buying a new car. I REALLY wanted a Z and never went through with it. I live in Colorado and was worried about getting around in the snow, getting to the mountains, and i was supposed to be moving a lot further from work. So in July, i bought a brand new Volvo C30 v1 base model. MSRP was about 25k, i paid 21.5k. So i have just been unhappy and still have a craving for a Z so i said **** it!! I can borrow my parents car for the mountains ( i take it anways and when its snowing) and im not moving. My plan was to find an 06-07 touring edition Z (must have upgraded sound) and trade in my car and add some extra cash. I already know im going to be losing out in a couple grand. 3-5k. Anyways how much extra cash do you think i should be willing to pay? I owe 18.5k on my car and would take that in a trade in. (KBB VALUE as well) IM SO STUPID!!
this happens all the time. I don't think we should be able to tell you how much of a hit you should be willing to take, that will be for you to figure out.
I've done this twice unfortunately - picked up a 4 banger accord when I started a commuter job, traded in for a v6 accord when I wanted more power.. and again when I wanted a real sports car - when does it end? I am finally content anyways, but it WILL cost you. I transferred about 5k of upside down car loan to get my Z - but to me it's worth it and I can easily afford the hit, can you?
sound financial advice will not be to trade your car in - but you obviously want it and are pretty set. now is a good time to *buy* a Z, as the 370z+winter is making them very hard to sell.

Well my financial situation is. I am 22, just graduated college, only debt is my car. Make 50k a year. Live at home. Put $1300 away into the market, 550 goes to lasik and car payment, rest i spend. I plan to live at home until summer 2010 (when gf and i are married). So i can def afford it, plus i figure ive lost 5k in the past 6 months in the crashing market, might as well get something i want for more losses LOL

Sure, if you are a high school kid or college student. But when you are a 22 year old college grad (with no student loans!) making 50k a year, it is not looking good. A man in that situation should be looking to become independent, not spending money on cars. He is planning on borrowing his parents car when it snows (he lives in CO) and is planning on continuing to be a leach to his parents for another couple years. My best guess is that his parents fully paid for his college education as well, hence no student loans.
Anyway, my real advice to Siruos would be to not take another financial hit that you can't afford just to drive a Z. It isn't going to be a practical car for you. You can't afford it until you can afford to live on your own, save some money, and take some personal responsibility for yourself financially.
Beyond that, I can't imagine that either you or your parents will be satisfied with the situation for much longer. It is hard to live at home under your parent's roof when you are an adult. The lack of independence will grate on you eventually. Even more, if you want to have a successful marriage, you better move out and learn to live on your own instead of going from having your Mom take care of you to expecting your wife to take care of you.
Just a thought from an old fart with collage age kids of his own.

I like how everyone thinks their ideals and values should be the same for everyone else. the situation is obviously working for him, he might have been a bit spoiled with college being paid for, he might be milking the situation by living at home, but if he's happy and his gf's happy, why not?

My situation at home is fine. I am close with my family. I have the entire basement to myself which is bigger then any condo i could buy. My parents did pay for my college as to why i am debt free. My parents dont mind me because i drive my little sister everywhere and help out around the house. Congrats for being 26 and owning your own house. I plan to leave Colorado in a couple years when i can move for my job, so i dont want to buy anything and get stuck with a mortgage. I dont intend on buying a place for at least 5-6 years when we're ready for kids. I was a finance/real estate major and i know the importance of owning your own property more than anyone, but thats just not my life choice. The reason i would buy a Z is because i CAN afford it. If i couldnt i would join the rest of the US who got us to wear our economy is right now.
