Default About to join you guys again, but worried which year i should get??

Whats up guys, I am looking to get into another Z again. I had an 04, and loved the car. Ive been reading and reading, searching and i know the DE motors very well. I found an 06 I like, but ive heard the motor is an issue and can go at any time???? Is their a recall for this?? ive tried to find details, but most threads are just confusing and everyone is throwing me different ways.

I just want to know the scoop, is 06 an unreliable car??/ I just wanna build it up eventually, but im gonna go a different way with this car and track it alot more. What is the real deal about the 06?

The 06 has a tsb due to oil consumption. Most dealers will replace the engine after monitoring if it uses to much oil over the check periods.

That's the only issue that I am currently aware of that is poular.

You should get as NEW as possible.

well 03-04 had the issues with tire feathering
and as kentuckyZ stated the 06's had the oil consumption issue.

id get an 07-08 for the hr motor that is unless a 370 is out of the question lol

Yea ive checked the 07's, but im going to be using this as a like second dd/track car as I dont need my truck anymore, and my lotus is no good for that whatsoever. Plus I want to build the 350z again like I did my last one, as it was honestly the best, most fun car I have owned to date. I dont want to spend on the 07, SOO if 07 is out, do you think 06 would be a bad choice? If I got an 06 could I just go to the dealer, and have them check for the issue for free??? or does it have to be under warranty to get this recall done which i guess its a recall?

Honestly, I trusted my car as stock it had no issues. When I turboed it, then yes issues came, but i wont be doing that to this car. I just love the new headlights and taillights, interior is no biggie to me as i liked the old one. Simple and some carbon fiber from evo r will make me very happy with it. So should i say forget 06 and just look for an 05 and lower???

the 06 is the best.

The hood bulge on the 07-08s is crap.
The 03-05s have a rough ride and are not as refined.

F the oil consumption. Monitor your car. If it consumes oil, get a new engine. It's free.

Based on what you said, an 06 is a good choice.

06 is the worst due to oils consumption issues and having the DE (tons of threads on this...search!)

07-08 is the way to go, HR FTW, The hood bulge looks way better than the old maxima slits of the 03-05 hoods but I guess thats a matter of opinion, some guys like tough looking cars, others don't

if you can't afford it then 04.5-05 is your best bet. least issues

Its not the case of affording it, i just dont want to spend the money on an 07-08. I have seen them and driven and their great, but I dont see such a DRASTIC difference that it is worth the money.

Some say 06 is the worst, ok so pretty much i should stick to motor I had in my 04, i trust that one and it looks like most are saying the 06 isnt very reliable.

O ok, champ. I put my bulge where my girl likes it most. I guess it is,by and LARGE, a matter of opinion

The slits are much sleeker and the side profile is a lot more flowing than the HR motor. I'm not into racing Z's so I don't really care if you have more whp than me.

As for 06s, you can beat on an engine for a few thousand, possibly even tens of thousands of miles and then get one completely free of charge. I don't see what the problem is with that.

DE motors offers a larger variety of mods AND better used prices for these mods too.

I see what everyone means, i think we narrowed it down a little better. Pretty much its either 04-05, or 07+. 06, i have to wonder how long that will go on that if the motor goes they will replace it for free?? If its a recall does it apply to someone within the warranty, or if your out of warranty can you still get the motor replaced b/c its a recall??

If your car falls between certain VIN numbers and consumes oil, they replace it for free, regardless of mileage.

Their is a number where you can find out if a car needs a recall???

If I find a nice 06, does the car have to be in warranty to get the free motor????? or if its not in warranty and theirs a recall and the motor goes im screwed????

it's all 05 35th anniv mt and all 06 mt

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...iscussion.html

Read the PDF. It's bulletproof. If your car consumes oil, you get a free engine.

It's the best ride, design, rims, mod availability, price (compared to 07+). IMHO, it's a no brainer.

In addition, iIf the 5th gear synchros go, you get a new tranny free, too. That's a completely new drivetrain at any mileage.

kacz, I was looking for an answer like that. I guess from reading, whether your in warranty or not, they will replace it for free, b/c the car was faulted from factory.

I guess if I get an 06, Do you guys think it would be wise to go to a dealer right away and ask them if I have the oil consumption issue??
