Default Lease expiring on 05 GTO M6, considering Z

I am a current 05 GTO lessee that will need a new car soon and I am considering either the 350Z, 370Z, or G37. I like my GTO and will miss it, but I am not going to buy it, plus I am just ready for a change. I am not going to buy a muscle car that weighs nearly 4000lbs, so the Camaro/Challenger (which happen to look identical), are out. I also don't want a Mustang.

I know virtually nothing about Nissans aside from what I have been reading. One major question I have is the cost benefit between the different packages available on the Z. Is the sport package worth the upgrade? I actually prefer the 18" wheels to 19", but I like the idea of better brakes and enhanced rear differential on the sport package.

At this point I am leaning towards a 370Z. The G37 is nice, but I don't necessarily need the extra room. The only way I would get a 350z I think is if I got an insane deal.

Are there any previous 05-06 GTO owners here that made the switch? What was your impression? Or if you have experience driving both, am I going to love/hate the Z? I haven't driven one yet, but I realize there are going to be major differences.... I expect the 370z should handle a lot better than the goat.

I should also mention that I don't plan to mod the car (except maybe shifter), so I don't care about modability or making it faster.

In the 350z, the most bang for buck is Enthusiast. Don't know on the 370z as to value.

You might look for banging deals on 350s; we've seen some really low prices.

Welcome. Study the 350Z models, and the 370Z packages. Decide which features you need and those that you do not. Happy shopping.

best advice you'll get, study up mang.

sports package is worth it to me, is it worth it to you?

make sure you go on some twistie roads on your test drive otherwise you might feel a lack of inspiration compared to your gto. you're jumping into a v6, although it has some get up and go, it's going to feel different.

If it's in the budget go for the 370Z with sport package. The brakes are incredible for OEM and the overall feel of the car is balanced. You will miss the torque from the GTO though. I have an 04 GTO and when I get in the company 370 or G35 the first thing I notice is the drop off in torque.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably wait for the 370 to make it to more dealerships and start shopping then. I am sure I will miss the torque, but I am hoping the better handling will lead a car that is equally as fun to drive as the GTO.

Going your current car to a 370Z will definetly be a major change! These 2 cars are on complete different sides of the spectrum. It's a move that I'm not sure I could make, even with my love of 350z's/370's. Have you looked into corvette's? A guy I work with just picked up a silver M6 C6 just north of Texas (which I see you're also from) in Oklahoma for $28,000 with like 20,000 miles. Good luck with whatever you do!

you can find the z pretty cheap , i think tere'e rebates for the older new z since the release of the 370 . they trying to get rid of the old get a g35 FTW

The only thing I will say, go for the 07/08 350Z, its faster than the 03-06 because it has a much better engine, it revs higher, its much smoother, has more tuning potential, and a much better power delivery. 07-08 Z with a decent driver will do low/mid 13s in a quarter mile, while 03-06 are high 13s and mostly low/mid 14 second cars, I'm talking stock of course. You'll find that the Z is a much better handler than the GTO, and it will be way more fun to drive. I raced a GTO, don't know what year/model but he beat me by half a hood, I forgot to turn off my TCS, and did a bad launch. I get 19-21 mpg city/highway mixed, pretty good considering its performance. Enthusiast is the best bang for the buck in the Z model line-up. Test drive an 07/08 Z, I don't think you will be disappointed.
